Hey fellow slanters! After 2 other false starts I have finally pulled the pin on my drag race dream. My 71 was stolen, the AZ 71 is still in the garage and this is number 3. This is a 1972 Don Hardy built Hemi Colt. It ran as a Hemi Colt with a Lenco in the 70's. Best time I can find on the interweb was a 8.40 @ 161. It has some history, built by the same man who built cars for Sox, Glidden, and many others. This car has been for sale for a few years and when it came up on racejunk for less than I could build one, I decided to clean out the savings account and lay my cards on the table. It needs a hood, some TLC and me to fit my slant for it's next life. Full chrome moly dual rail frame, glass front end, aluminum interior, rack and pinion steering, wheelie bars, etc. Going to run my 232 engine from the Barracuda, a four speed and a set of Weber sidedrafts. Looking for a supplier for Colt Fiberglass so if you know of any please let me know. Don't have many excuses now.

That looks great!
I'm curious what it weighs - should be pretty light :D

Wasn't Tom Drake also looking for one of these way back when?

Um...........
Will a slant even fit in that car?
Will be great if it does.
That thing must be as light as one of the Rail cars.

My Daytona was a small block car when I got it. We had to move the firewall back to get a Slant in.

Thanks for all the comments! I just love a Dana, so I will do my best to keep it. Not worried about dropping the clutch and that thing braking. Firewall is in the car, so I hope I have room. I need some help with the front brakes, spindle mount wheels with old K&H calipers, I need new rotors, can't seem to find them. Hood was stolen during transport from Portland, I need a Hood, can't seem to find one either. I figured out the last owner who raced it was a bit of a racer, not a fixer. I have found a couple of things that make me shake my head. I know Don Hardy didn't do that. I am looking for a man, Gary Emig, from Kansas City. He finished the car after Hardy hung the body and finished the roller. I find new things every day, drip rails are shaved, smooth! All the glass is good, just need to align doors a little better, Cleaned the interior, man there are some places I can't get too, tubes are tough to get around. Some one told me that Don Ness built the little trunk spoilers.

Very cool. Mark Goodman might be a good person to ask about Gary Emig.

It was a good day. I found Gary Emig today and spoke with him! He got the car and installed a Milodon aluminum 426 and the Lenco. He said Richard Starkey bought a new Red Colt and took it to Don Hardy. After it was finished Mr. Starkey's was going to have Gary Kimball drive the car. He was killed in a racing accident. A few Colts were crashed and Mr. Starkey decided to make a show car out of the Colt. Won a few car show, Best Competition Car Trophies. He wanted his grandson to drive the car, but that never happened. Gary was surprised that I found him and that the car still existed. He said, that car is over 40 years old and I still remember it. He wasn't sure where it went or who bought it. Sorry he didn't have any pictures of it. I thanked him for talking with me, and I sent him some pictures. That was good conversation.
Then I found a company in Canada who has the Fiberglass molds from Anderson Industries in Maryland. I drove there in the 80's and bought a glass hood for the Barracuda that Will has. So..... I found my glass hood for the car. I could not find any other company who listed them or knew anyone making them. So another good thing. Now to find the next owners and complete the circle.
