Cool thanks for Sharing.

So were there AL blocks made in G and RG?

I always thought all AL blocks were 225's

That is within reasonable driving distance for me.

I had never heard of a aluminum 170, but that doesn't mean there were none. If you look at the picture of the two blocks, there are differences. One thing I noticed was the lack of the alternator mounting bosses on the "new" engine, where the other engine has them. Also the "new" block seems to have a lower deck with respect to the timing cover mounting.

How about that green paint on the 225. I had one like that once and suspected that it had been installed in something other than an A body. The 170 must of been one of those pilot engines that also got the aluminum head for testing in 1959-60. Never have seen one of those before. Wonders never cease.

Boy that is cool.
I knew they did both, but moved to just 225 engines for production.
One of my aluminum blocks was the green color, it came out of a B body car.

I called the guy, right after he posted. Really can't afford that stash, but it never hurts to ask. He has a fair idea what the stuff is worth to someone that is into slants. I didn't get a price from him, but it might be worth making a reasonable offer. Especially the Unicorn (170 block).

For sure Charrlie
You could sell the other stuff pretty easy.
But what do you do with the block?
Maybe a unique application for a small slant, like Bonneville?
Something that could take advantage of the small cubes and light weight.

There was one reply to the post, "Need price due to site rules". So maybe it got taken down because it was a "Make offers, what am I bid" type of post.

Something interesting about this what gives every appearance of being a die-cast aluminum LG (170) block: no bosses for oil feed to hydraulic lifters. That was a feature of the (relatively) early-build production aluminum RG (225) engines. They were never drilled/never used, but they were there in case block expansion made solid lifters impractical. The aluminum 170 idea ended very early on, and this block has other "I'm early" clues (no alternator mount boss, for example), but…no oil feed bosses:

The guy's aluminum 225 engine, on the other hand, the used one with the '61-only metallic turquoise paint, that one does have the bosses.

Just had a call back from the seller. We chatted awhile. "Bout a month and a half ago, I sold my late-'70s prototype aluminum Slant-6 head to a guy in Pittsburgh".

I chased one of those for decades. Never did lay hands on one.

Seems like if you chase rare or unique slant parts they disappear quickly.

Now I wonder who in Pittsburg got an aluminum Head???

Last aluminum head picture I saw was a melted pile of aluminum on the ground after a fire
