On this site I was reviewing and trying to identifying the type of 904 (spare ) transmission I had picked up awhile ago when I picked up a /6 motor from a 68 Dart..

Since I am new to this...My question is this... Did the 904 and 727 share similar splines? Regarding lockup or non-lockup? If you see the info below which is linking pictures from website provided above

The 904 (non-lockup style) was built from 1960-1977. Notice how the splines go to the end of the shaft (see Fig. 1 on left). The 904, nonlock-up style, is preferred for performance building.

The 904 (lockup style
) was built from 1978-1993. This style uses a torque converter with an internal clutch. Notice the machined area where the clutch inside the converter will seal (see Fig. 2 on left).

The 727 (non-lockup style) was built from 1962 and on. Notice how the splines go to the end of the shaft (see Fig. 1 on left). The 727, non-lockup style, is preferred for performance building.

The A727 (lockup style) was built from 1978-1993. The A727 uses a torque converter with an internal clutch. Notice the machined area where the clutch inside the converter will seal (see Fig. 2 on left).

There are 3 diferent input splines for the 904. 67 and older course spline,68-up fine spline,and then lock-up.Many tranmission books don't disscuss the course spline because it is so old,and not used for racing because of poor torque converter availibility

727s and most 4-speeds have the larger output shaft, but the '66-'67 A-body A833s and some A833ODs have the smaller output shaft.
