I think someone asked for pics of how to CC a head


The head.


I "paint" a thin layer of wheel bearing grease around the chamber to make it seal.


This is a cover form a CD case with 2 holes drilled in it the 1/4" hole is for
filling the chamber the smaller hole is to allow air to escape. The grease "glues" it to the head to prevent leaks.


I use a 60 CC (or ML) syringe from Tractor Supply (about $2.69 for a 2 pack) to fill the chamber.


This is just water with a few drops of green food coloring to mak it easier to see.


Fill the syringe with the water and try to get all the air bubbles out, get as exact as possible to the 60CC line. Try not to have this many air bubbles at the bottom.


Slowly inject the water in to the chamber.

then just subtract what you have left in the syringe from the filled volume (60CC in this case) and that is your chamber volume. In the case of a larger chamber you may have to fill it up a second time and add the volume of 2 full syringes and subtract what is left. With a smaller syringe you just have to keep track of how many times you had to fill it.

Done carefully this will get you within a CC or two which is close enough for most of us. The more careful you are and the less air you have the more exact it is.

I had problems acquiring a CC kit, I'm sure there is places to get them without being hassled. Instead though I was thinking about filling the head was play dough, and putting it in water to measure the water displaced. The Biology center get's rid of beakers every once in a while and you can get a good one if you search through them. Has anyone tried this before?

That's pretty much the procedure to figure out the volume of valve cutout notches in pistons.............

I had no problem at all getting the syringes at tractor supply today, no questions asked. They keep them right out on the shelf in the cattle health supply section.

Yip, I got mine at the pharmacy as well (behind the counter). The other thing I did was cut a hole in some leftover lexan with a 5" hole saw. then add another hole for a breather. This rigid piece will never get cracked in the bottom of the tool box.

Sandy, I think you need to patent your design. (unless you stole it from someone else.)
