Hey All,

My FSM says to "Install engine lifting fixture to cylinder head and attach a chain hoist to fixture eyebolt."

Where do you all attach your chain? When I attach the chain on the outside of the head, it wraps around and puts pressure on the valve cover or the rocker arms (if vc is removed).

I don't really want to use the head bolts :?

Anyone have a good solution for this?

On the manifold side of the top of the head there exists 2 3/8 holes. When connected by a short chain they balance the motor nicely for removal.

Use the two beefy threaded bosses on the cylinder head's top surface, between the manifold mounting surface and the valve cover rail.

For "engine only" removal, I just use a loop bolted down at the front bolt hole, that balances the engine in the right position.
For engine and trans removal, use a strap between the two bolt holes, as discribed above.

Err-uhh...what's the deal with that multi-hole flange visible on the front crank snout in the engine you've pictured above, Doug?

Doc I am lost here. I am doing an "engine only" proceedure.

what is the "front bolt hole"? That engine is perched perfectly I have to try that.

I echo Dan's question too. Interesting crank. ???

OK, you need to look at the top of the cylinder head for two square bosses with 3/8 - 16 unc tapped holes. (takes a 9/16 hex head bolt)
The forward boss / hole is about 6 inches back from the front of the head.
Use this hole only for a strap or chain, just loop it around and bolt it down into the single hole. doing that will hang the engine in the correct position for engine only installation. This is a factory engineered "balance point", made for engine only installation.

That is the hub for an after market balancer.
The outer inertia ring bolts onto the hub.

hi, i know i posted this about 2 or 3 years ago ,but i took a factory mopar engine lift bracket of a yellow 225 about 15-20 years ago. i don't know if it was only installed on the industrial slants, but i have never seen another one on car/truck slants .it has the mopar pentastar and half of a stamped /cast part # left on it.(now under multiple coats of mopar industrial red, hemi orange and turquoise) i offered it to doc to be copied/reproduced . it bolts to the top of the cylinder head bosses and has 2 holes in the bracket. one hole for pulling the engine alone and another for engine and trans combined. it has worked great for me.the salvage yard that told me about it originally said "the yellow slants all had them". "it makes it easy for us throw them in the container for shreading". :shock: ron
