No RTV needed for this, just make sure the mating surfaces are clean and the pump hs some lube packed in the mechanism to get it 'started'.

And be sure the gasket is correct for the oil pump you are using.

Should there be an oil ring on the new pump, wasn't one in the kit. Also, how critical is it to not have the pressure valve ( I think) with the longer tube. I was told it's there only to keep more oil in your pan. I don't know, advise, thanks Dana

The long stand pipe that goes up into the oil filter reduces drain down when the engine is shut off. As far as holding more oil, it will only effect the amount of oil in the sump when the filter drains down.

The pressure relief valve is on the bottom front of the pump when installed on the engine. Without it, there will be no oil pressure to the engine.

The O-ring that comes with some gasket kits goes under the plate on the outside of the pump. Get one if this is a used pump. The old one is likely pretty crunchy by now. Do not tighten the oil pump cover plate without first replacing the O-ring. It will break and leak oil.

I think I didn't ask right question on relief valve. Here goes, under the long tube there was a spring and small plate like where spring sat. I think this was used to stop extra oil from draining back, but I am not going to use it because it wasn't in good shape at all. Will this be a problem? Advise, thanks again, Dana[/b]
