I managed to pull the center link on the 1965 Barracuda. The idler is good, but the pitman arm is bad. Is there a source out there for a new one? I saw that PST has them for $100. That seems a bit high. Rock doesn't have them. So, is there some secret code for them?

[Edit] I would love to update to a newer steering box as well. Can I get a newer steering box, and a later pitman arm that fits, and keep the geometry right? Did they change the length or other dimensions of the pitman arm when they changed the sector size?

Thanks,

Greg

Steering box interchange is '62-'72 A- and B-body, all engines.

Pitman arm interchange is '62-'66 A-body, all engines.

They are expensive...!

Rare Parts in Stockton CA has parts for your Barracuda. They are a manufacturer and discourage small quantity orders with high prices. AutoZone can order the parts from Rare Parts for less than if you buy direct. The Rare Parts pitman arm was around $80 on the autozone web site.

Sorta. They're mostly a "buy-up-old-stock-cheap-and-sell-it-expensive" outfit. Also a "Send-out-yard-rats, collect-old-ones, drill-out-and-claim-to-rebuild" house.

Thanks for the tip on autozone. I went with them.

Everybody else ( espo, just suspension, etc) was selling the exact same brand for $130 and up.

It turns out Moog never made these, although TRW might have. So, for the most part, once Chrysler quit making the parts, that was it.

Huh? Yeah, they did. All the major steering-and-suspension companies at one time made this part. Moog, TRW, Perfect Circle, etc.

The parts guys said that there was no number, hence, no production.

I would love to be wrong on this. We need all the parts for the older a-bodies that we can get.

MOOG does not currently make them (or sell under their name).

Well, yeah, not now, there isn't. The newest car that uses this item is about to turn 4 model-decades old.

But when this was a fast-moving part because there were lots of '62-'66 A-bodies on the roads, all the major companies (and some minor ones) made it.
