i have a 904 tranny out of an 85 Dippy. IF i wanted to use an electronic speedometer, what would i look under to get the correct pinion/sending unit?

i may do that if my search for the factory transducer(?) doesn't pan out.

I am guessing that you can use NAPA Echlin VSS 103 or Standard/BlueStreak SC-105, vehicle speed sensor that'll fit in place of the '66-up speedo pinion adaptor and accept the speedo drive pinions for a '94 Dakota, but put out a pulse signal rather than rotary motion to transmit to a cable:



The question I cannot answer is whether the late-model speedo drive pinions will work correctly with the earlier transmissions. I am guessing (again) that they will, but this would be a "try and see" operation.

If you wind up with a "tough luck, won't work" situation on the speedo drive pinions, you can leave the existing '85 speedo pinion adaptor in place and install an Echlin VSS 232 in series with the cable:



And if all else fails, there is an aftermarket kit that does kinda what you want.

Hey, another idea here. If I remember right, my 90 Dakota still had a cable driven speedo with the electronic provisions for the computer plug as well, both built into the speedo pinion adapter. I know that the late 80s FWD cars and minivans used this setup.
