I don't know I just bought the car. It has a 'rebuilt' trans. I did get it in drive twice and it shifted fine. But for the most part reverse is all I can get it to go in. I will try dropping the pan and adjusting the cable to specs and see how it goes.

you should not have to drop the pan to adjust the cable--- it has been posted on this site before -- on the procedure-- search push button tranny---, I don't have my manual handy at the moment-- 65 is the only year that might differ-- than the rest --due to some changes in the valve body -- that might do the trick ,Lawrence

I tried adjusting the cable per these instructions and it broke.....Evidently it was in poor condition. Anyone here replaced on of these cables? Any tips? Hmmm Maybe it's not broken but just pulled out. I will take a better look in a day or two when I get a chance to pull the pan.

Problem solved. The clip that secures the cable wasn't holding and just needed to be bent back into shape.
