Hi all yesterday evening i went on a drive, and my car had been sitting for 8+ hours so she was stone cold, let her idle for a couple mins to start and warm up, put her in gear and idle dropped to 600rpms (from 800rpms) which is normal, but when i went to accelerate she didn't start to move till almost 1000rpms !!!! and she sounded like she was struggling just to get there, but after driving for awhile and warming up, she was fine no low speed issues, so i am going to drop the pan and inspect, i was also going to be putting in my manual/automatic transgo rebuilt valve body, question is can i get away with just tightening the clutch bands and call it quits, or should i go more indepth ?? Trans is a '75 non-LU 904,

-Mike

You let it idle in Park correct? Try idling it in neutral so the pump fills the torque converter. Chances are the torque converter just drained into the pan and had to refill.

that is correct, now funny thing when driving her tonight, she has got major delay in shifting, like climbs to 3000rpms and slowly shifts 1-2, 2-3. its really weird, i wonder if there may be issues with the valve body, or slipping clutches,

Don't feel bad. We've all done things like that. AT least I have. Lou always preaches, "Get to the basics and start there". That is what you finally did. I am glad you found the problem, and it is an easy fix.

yea me too sam, at $6 a quart for ATF+4 (my parts store doesn't carry atf+3 anymore, autozone, but advance as well ) NAPA does but its $5 for ATF+3, so i might as well get the better stuff. I just hate i mean HATE doing tranny servicing, plus the valve body swap, glad i saved a bit of a headache, well atleast for this weekend lol,
