Holy wah! I just found the correct slot-lock end nuts and a whackload of additional options in steel, stainless, and brass, at McMaster-Carr. You can get plain or fancy.

Sweet! Part number 94358A270 appears to be an ideal high-strength steel manifold-to-head stud with a drive hex in the end for E-Z installation.

Now all we need is new butterfly washers. Image

Sure love it when the smart people do the work of finding parts I will be needing when I tear my 66 valiant's engine apart to clean and rebuild it. Thanks a bunch for this info! 8)

The McMaster description of how these work is interesting: Also known as Flexloc nuts, they have a slotted top that expands when the nuts are tightened—locking them in place. This explains their usage in this application: Chrysler wanted to limit clamping force on the two end ears of the exhaust manifold, so they used these nuts to make 10 lb·ft arrive "sooner" on the torque wrench, without binding the end ears so they can't expand and contract.

Maybe make a sticky out of this thread, or put it in the FAQ page?

I’m getting ready to order studs and nuts for manifold swap here soon.
Are these the correct parts I should order?
1 package of 99638A300 and 13 of the 94358A270 studs.
What else should I order that should be replaced? (Part numbers please)
Also I want to replace the 3 intake to exhaust manifold bolts does anyone have specs on these?

Thanks

Dave

I could swear I've heard that before somewhere... Maybe it was HERE

Thanks Dan! I ordered some last week after seeing your great find. They have just been installed and I gotta say...that hex drive on the top was awesome for the install! I'm hoping the high heat Permatex thread locker was the right way to seal the studs to prevent water leaking from the head water jackets.? Maybe I should have asked this prior to installing them.

Wow, yes, extra thanks to finding the McMaster Carr site.

So, I've been out of this for some time, does this take care of all the studs and nuts (not the butterfly washers of course) for both the intake and exhaust manifold?

What size are the bolts that mount the intake to the exhaust manifold heat riser? DD says they get brittle over time, should be replaced. I'm switching to Dutra Duals and a new intake, so I should consider the stud/nut changes now...

thanks,

'67 Dart 270

Great find Dan. I'm really digging the studs myself.
