Do we have any Australian members with a AP5 parts book I am wondering if an Ap5 wagon has the same part number for the rear side glass gasket as a 63 valiant wagon does. These are repoped in Austrailian but there has always been a question if they are the same. The part number for the 63 dart and valiant is 2255726 and 2255727 Thanks

Brian

There was a body change in the rear quarter glass area on the Australian Valiant wagons when production of those body parts was shifted from North American import to local Australian manufacture in the middle of AP6 (1965) production.

American and Canadian '63 through '66 FPCs list wagon quarter glass p/n 2243 236-7 and gasket p/n 2255 726-7.

Australian '62-'70 FPC lists wagon quarter glass as follows:

AP5 all plus AP6 up to certain serial number: 2240 236-7 (same as US)
AP6 after certain serial number plus all VC: 2597 846-7 (different to US)

Australian '62-'70 FPC lists wagon quarter glass gasket as follows:

AP5 all plus AP6 up to certain serial number: [empty white space on page]
AP6 after certain serial number plus all VC: 2597 902-3 (different to US)

Sooooo...problem: the way the page is formatted could be interpreted to mean all these wagons use one kind of gasket. There is precedent for that meaning to that format. Unfortunately, there is also precedent for this being a simple misprint, a part number left off the page.

The glass is different and the body is different, which suggests the gasket is different, but that certainty is not 100%.

It is almost certain earlier versions of the Australian FPC would have shown 2255 726-7, the US/Canada part number for the US gasket imported along with the rest of that part of those cars.

See if you can learn if the reproduction gaskets in Australia are for the early/Canadian-body cars or the late/Australian-body cars. What Australian vendor is offering them?

Oh, they're open again? Good; their home page has said "temporarily closed" for a long time.

(And now I look at the page for the product you're asking about, it's clear they offer both the early and late variety—they state they need the body number if you have an AP6. Just order for an AP5, and you'll get the ones you need.)

Thanks Dan I know several times people have asked if these would work on American wagons but I have never seen anybody bite the bullet and order a set I will probably do this in the next few months and I will let you all know how it works out.
