I have a 225 slant. The retainers are different sizes. Most are approx. 1 inch, 2 others are abt. 1.18. I understand that the longer one goes in the center of the shaft. Have I just somehow gotten two of the long ones by mistake? Can I still use the extra longer one on the end of the shaft or do I have to find another short one?

Are you talking about the saddle shaped washers under the rocker shaft bolt heads?

There is only ONE long retainer that holds the shaft down. Get another retainer to replace that second long one.

The book says "Be sure to install the long retainer in the center position only."
