after 18459 basically trouble free miles (I reset the odometer to 0 miles during the refurb) the AC install is complete

I built the D150 with the idea of towing with it..
got the trailer from Trailer World in Bowling Green KY,, I did a lot of shopping and I was impressed with the quality of the welds and the material used on their trailers. It weighs in at 1100 lbs.

I put a Tekonsha P3 brake controller on the D150,, works real nice.

Towed the Barracuda up to a T&T session at Bunker Hill Dragway, about an hour north of Indy, this past Wednesday,, the D150 pulled fine,,

The D150 has an OD a833, and a 3.23 rear gear,, running 60 to 65 MPH in third had the tach showing 2100 to 2200 rpm,, That is going to fit right into the torque curve with the small cam that I am running..

Turned 25,000 miles on the D150 today.
As part of the rebuild project I had re set the odometer to zero,, as it was basically a new truck,, not too worried about breaking any rules as I'm never going to sell it anyway,,

some days are good for numbers,, see the Flicker link for a photo of the odometer,,when the picture was taken, total mileage was 25007 and the trip odometer read 123.4 And that's the way it was :D

I finally got around to doing something with the OE bench seat,, replaced it with new bucket seats and a center console.

As inexpensive as Pull-a-part seats? , no,, but considering they were bolt in to a 1983 D150,, the pricing is not bad.

The best part is: New Foam, New Fabric, New Steel,,,, I am happy

Back to the D150,,

over the 25K miles, once I got over the initial rear oil seal leak, the D150 has consumed:
* two HEI Modules, they both were Mallory
* one alternator, was a AZ rebuilt unit off a slant six motor that I had picked up and no they did not honor the life time warranty as I was not the original purchaser
* brake light switch, was a new part that I swapped in, a crimp failed
* had a recent throw-out bearing failure, plastic housing de-laminated

and that is really about it. Actually not too bad.

With Indianapolis as the home base, the 83 D150 has been as far East as Jamestown NY, as far West as St Louis MO, as far North as Lacrosse WI, as far South as Rocky Mount NC

The 83 D150 continues to get a lot of attention,,

and I just like the truck.

The winter of 2020 is upon us folks that reside in IN. With that, the 83 D150 is now quietly parked in the garage, and will be for the next five months.
The 83 D150 has accumulated a little over 40,000 miles since its major re new. It has been reliable and efficient and useful, but over time there are wear and tear items that accumulate that need attention. I put together a list of 16 items that I will address over the next month or so. Garage Times are Good Times.

Nice. I managed to bet my truck in the garage last wweekend but it needs everything. I mean EVERYTHING. It needs to be blown apart and every single piece cleaned, lubed, repaired, or replaced. It is getting to the point it isn't safe to drive.

Someday I will get my truck in as good of shape as yours!

I Have my Van blown apart for similar issues. Since I use it for towing I want it to be reliable and stuff needed done on the engine.

Instead of a backup HEI system you may want to just use one of these:

wow. Long time between updates, 2016 then not til 2017 and brought from the depths in 2020.... I wanted to ask about the towing aspect. Being a short bed/short WB, any problem with the tail wagging the dog? I remember towing my 93 Dakota Club cab on a tow dolly (only front wheels on dolly, Club cab's own back wheels on the ground) with a reg cab short bed 94 Dakota, some years back, and if I was going "any" faster than a crawl, the truck on the dolly would "push" the rear of the tow vehicle and I had all I could do not to jackknife the combo..... my tow vehicle of the time didn't have enough "ass" to keep it on a steady track. I know, yours is definitely not a Dakota....
other thing I have heard (and has contributed to my decision to keep my own Slanted truck, a Slant) is that no matter what upgrades are done, tow capacity is never any more than what the factory claimed new for "that" particular truck..... even if I put a 1 ton suspension under my 1/2 ton..... my truck is the lightest version (4800 GVW), I have had 6000 GVW "1/2 ton" D150s before, too. though weirdly, my weak kneed 99 Dakota I have now, is rated heavier than my 85 D150 (D100? there arent any emblems on it)

I love your truck, for sure.

Got to check off a couple of items on the list. Front wheel bearings serviced, new front brake pads and rear shoes checked.
Also had the tires/ wheels re balanced

The front brake pads certainly still had life in them, but it was one of those deals, since I was in that far, go ahead and do it all.

The front and rear axels on this slant powered D150 are the heavier duty option. For the front axel on an '83 D150 there is a 3300 axel and a 3600 axel.
This truck takes the 3600 axel wheel seals and has the 11.75 disks to go with it. The rear axle has 11 inch drum brakes.

The project for this weekend is to get the passenger side door remote door lock functioning again.

Don, concerning your towing question(s)
I never experienced a stability, handling or braking issue. I have a front anti sway bar on the truck, load leveler air bags, good shocks and good tires. Also when I was towing the 68 Barracuda, I was using a modern light weight aluminum trailer and had the 68B stripped out to a little more than a shell with OE glass and dash. Even with a short bed PU, the pulling vehicle out weighed what was behind it.

I towed my 66 Valiant to Clay City, from Florida, in 2019. Used my 84 D-100 with a slant six/A833OD trans. Had no problems at all. Car and trailer weighed about 4600 lbs. Had about 400 lbs of tools/parts in the bed of the truck.
