Let's not give him any ideas until he gets about 6 cars running first!

After I got my racecar running I finally got back to Andrew's truck last night. I got a new 10 1/2" 130 tooth flywheel for a V8 and redrilled the one hole that is offset from our slant 6 pattern. I also had him get a standard B&B style pressure plate. Everything is in and we fired the truck up last night. The clutch appears to release ok  We will finish it up Saturday and I'll give you a driver's report after it goes down the road and returns under its own power. Part numbers and pictures to follow.

Truck is all back together and runs like a top. V8 Flywheel and new clutch work fine. Found a bad oil leak on the driver side by the motor mount! What could that be? Oh yeah, I forgot to plug the hole in the block for the car dipstick tube. Ok, fixed that and all is well! Runs good! Plenty of power. To say a 4X4 with a stock slant 6 and big tires on it is a dog is quite the understatement! Now it can actually get out of its own way!

New Flywheel got the extra hole drilled in it and a lock plate for the bolts.

Here is a picture of the bell housing the goofy flywheel came out of. I'm not familiar enough with them to know if it is a standard NP435 Bell or not. I'm not sure the flywheel is of much value unless you own a fork lift!

  That would be funny if it weren't true!

Motor for Seymours Valiant should be completed any day now. The Slantkota found a home with Andrew Shank's younger brother and he plans to fix it up and use it for a race truck. Not sure when that will happen, but I'm sure I will be involved with both projects!

I'd like to get my hands on one to look it over but, this one is an interesting hybrid....

It has the shape and square hole in the top like the typical 11" clutch NP bellhousing, but it has a high mount starter like the standard 3 and 4 speed bellhousings.... which would be a nice improvement considering the low mount starter doesn't allow for use of the driver's side block to bell bracket.

Was there a part number on the bell? Was it iron?

I am not sure about a Part#. Next time it is over here and inside I'll take a look. It is aluminum also.

If you could, take a picture of where the trans mates to the bell. It would be interesting if it is a multi-fit bell.

No pictures and I won't be pulling it apart for at least another 25 years to take one!

It only has a single pattern with 4 large bolts for the transmission.

That would allow it to be used with my adapter plate to put an A-833 behind it... or possibly with another layout, a Tremec...

Would be nice to save a little weight from the smaller clutch and flywheel... and some Dakotas have had aluminum flywheels.....

The high mount starter would also help, since one could use standard headers....

I might have to keep my eyes peeled for 85-86-87 trucks... to see if one pops up....

Ok would anyone out there like to have this odd ball flywheel? 130 tooth, 11" clutch surface, and a recessed face. Someone said that it is a forklift application but I have no idea. It is in my way and it is leaving the garage soon. If anyone wants it it is yours for a donation of any size to Rob Simmons for the Clay city race purse.
I can get it hand delivered to any of the East coast Slant 6 races, or I can ship it if you pay the freight! Since this is a "rare" piece it ought to be worth a couple bucks to someone.

Rick
