The pictures are of stock Desoto dashes.... mine has no radio and no ashtray .

The holes for the radio and ash tray are now covered.

I use the former radio grille as the outlet for the heater.

Maybe a Custom Autosound Mfg Secretaudio system would work better for you.

The Secretaudio SST has a flush-mount controller while the Secretaudio SRMS has a handheld controller.

All of this is making me think I should upgrade my 20-25 yr old stereo system in my 68 Dart. Get ride of the 10 disc changer, head, and amp, and just use iPod/mp3. I like the boat unit(s) so thanks for posting those! If I take my head unit out, I can replace it with gauges! Probably save 10 lbs off the car... Down the road a ways...

Lou

It will get stuck in your head and you won't have to worry about a stinkin radio

On the floor, under the seat, face forward? Then use the remote pointing backward between your legs!! Just thinkin' outside my (brain) box. :?

This is what I have going on in my Duster. The wires are ran under the door sill and skip right under the seat. I taped them up so you can't see them through the window. My Alpine deck just sits under the seat and has an Aux wire connected to it that I brought up through the backside of the seat. That way I can connect my phone or iPod if needed. I keep the remote in my glove box and just point it down at the floor and it works just fine.

The pros are the fact that it's an almost invisible setup to anyone peering through the glass looking to steal your stuff.

The cons are the fact that you can't see the face of the stereo. I'll program my favorite stations into it and just use the arrow button on the remote to go through them. You're kind of in a guessing mode if you want to listen in on a different station that isn't programmed. Also if you disconnect the battery, you have to reprogram them again. A slight pain but it's well worth it to not have your car broken into.
