My auto transmission 'dip-stick' keeps popping up after I drive the car.

How can I stop this?

Thanks

Stop driving the car.

Sorry, I'm a wise-ass couldn't resist.

Perhaps pressure is building up within transmission because its vent hole located behind torque converter has become plugged; not likely.

Another cause could be dip stick's friction containment bend, located just below tin cover at its top, is worn, and or the ring inside of dipstick tube at its top is worn where there is no resistance to keep dipstick trapped when fully inserted. If this is it, a slight change in the bend would probably fix the problem.

The dipstick on my car requires a bit of a tug to remove it. In other words there is positive entrapment when stick is fully bottomed.

x2 on WJAJR's list...

I will say a looong while back in an 'extreme case' I had that problem on a Demo Derby car with a 383 and 727... ended up being a bit more fluid in the tranny than the dipstick was reading and between the abuse, the extreme heat and hard gear dumps the fluid would pop the top.... after a few times with that my buddy took it out the next year and it spit the stick out halfway and then drenched the engine bay with ATF...which caught on fire due to the carb backfire and hot manifolds... needless to say that was the end of the car...
