Post subject: A-body convertible out there? (Tue Jul 18, 2017 5:39 pm) Reply with quote

Hello Slanters,

I have a friend who is contemplating a classic convertible of some kind. Anyone out there trying to sell an A-body convertible of any kind? Just putting some feelers out there...

Thanks much,

Lou

Hi Lou!
Did you ever see my 1964 Dart GT convertible?
It is still in NC and needs a new home.
Is you friend looking for turn-key or a project?

Hi Damraider and Joe,

Thanks very much for your responses. Both could be interesting.

Joe, I may have glimpsed your 64, but I don't recall. Where is it and what kind of shape is it in? The guy could be up for a project, but I'd need to dig deeper on that. Will get back to you in a week or 3...

Best wishes and thanks again,

Lou

It is in a garage about 1/2 hour from where I used to live.

64 Dart GT convert, as far as I can tell originally 225, 833, 7 1/4SG 3.23, black on black.

We bought it in AZ so there is no significant rust (maybe 1" circle on the rear inner trunk extension) but it did receive a skim coat as part of its last paint job. The front of the hood is dented.

It was a basket case, so I put it together with all the running gear from a 40k mile 76 Swinger and was driving it before I moved.

As it sits it has a 225, electronic ignition, LBP manual discs and 7 1/4 3.23 open rear, 15" Cordoba steel road wheels with trim rings, single exhaust with turbo muffler.
I started with the 833OD in it but pulled it for my Valiant. It now has an A230 3spd full-synchro box in it with shifter but missing the shift rods. That's the only thing keeping it out of driveable status right now.

I can provide the 833OD and shifter if desired. I also have the original bellhousing if he wants to go back to a regular 833.

The seats were nicely reupholstered in cloth before we got it but some of the stitching has dried out (AZ!) and would need resown. There is no carpet.

There are lots of trim and interior panels included but I never got as far as sorting through what is there or missing. There may be duplicates and probably some omissions.
The top frame is there and functional but no fabric.

That's about all the details I can think of (after 5 years) but if you have any further questions let me know.

I was going for driver status instead of resto but either way this car deserves to live again

(I also have most of the bits, including engine, to put a small-block in it if he wants to go that way.)

I have a 64 Valiant Signet convertible. Top good, new back window, newer excellent interior & fresh correct repaint, stock 225 fresh rebuild. Body needs sanding & paint. No rust & pretty straight. Needs new tires. I can get it running & braking in one day. Cross country driving MAY be possible depending on drivers knowledge. $1500. Also have 64 Valiant Wagon 6 and 64 Dart GT V8. Both will start and somewhat stop. $500 each. Located in Paradise, CA (near Chico)

Thanks a bunch for the info and rundown, Bruce! HmmmmMMMMmmmmm. Will correspond further by PM/phone/email. Vert and wagon are SBP wheels, I assume?

I wonder if the vert would tow the wagon, or vice versa, for 2700 miles... Wink

I have fixed a lot of things along the side of the road, and I actually consider it fun if not too pressed for time.

Thanks again,

Lou

I've got a '66 Dart 270 convertible looking for a new home. My dad was the original owner. All stock. Project car. Garage kept the last 10+ years. 225 slant w/903 manual on the tree. I'm in VA, about 20 miles west of DC.
