Hi all. I have installed a shift kit in my 904 LU followed the destructions and set pressures accordingly.. the issue l am haveing is at WOT it wolnt shift to the next gear, unless l let off the throttle.. questions are... can l adjust shift pressures internally tp get the trany to shift sooner, and if l do or can will it also affect how it shifts at half throttle? I like the shift at lower throttle (nice firm and quick). As far as i can tell the other option is to regulate how far the lick down lever is allowed to travel. ( with a stop of some kind and a spring on the kick down cable to allow for WOT) however this idea seems to be a jeary rig way to go, and l would like to do things properly when l can. Thankyou for any help.

Are both up-shifts late at WOT or just one of them? ( 1 to 2 shift vs 2 to 3 up-shift)
Main line, throttle & governor pressure adjustment impacts both shift points...
Shift valve spring tension adjustment changes a single shift point.
Do you need to move one or both shift points?
DD

I need to move boath.. as l talk and think about when l built the trany.. seems to me that the 2/45rear gears wolnt spin the drive shaft fast enough to let the governor work properly. I think l am going to go with a lower gear set and take it from there.

My 904 shifts automatically at 4200rpm when cold, and 4000 rpm warmed up with 3.55:1 rear gear unless lower gear is selected in which case it locks in on that gear to red line north of 6000rpm. If engine is not reaching 4000 rpm range in 2ed gear it won't up shift until throttle pressure backs off. So rear gearing may very well be the problem, or speed limits are just dang too low in your neck of the woods.

Getting rid of that daddy long legs gear for a 3.24:1 would perk up the old girl.

Yes.. l was thinking of going with something in the range of 2.90 or 3.07/1 rear gears. The 2.45 was nice for going from MN to TN. The 3
24/1would get me about 2500 rpm at 60 mph.. that's not bad.

Did the kit account for the lock up circuit, or did you shim it and disable it?

Ummmm... let me think... l believe, l installed a heavier spring for the lockup, to compensate for the higher line psi. However it is an electric lockup. So l installed a hobs switch and a chevy dimmer switch on the floor, to lift the ground. So when l am giveing her the berries l can shut off the lockup option. Lol... when the lock up is shut off, l wired the fasten seat belts light in the dash, to come on, to remind me im not in cruse mode. Its also fun to hit the switch and shotgun past a fellow driver, while the occasional passenger is looking at the light and scrambling to find things to hold onto. Theres something about red ligjts on the dash, violence from under the hood, and seeing the car your passing turn into a blurr, that makes people's eyes get really big. Lol. So fun.

That works, it's a very late one and not the usual 70's early 80's versions that line pressure and high performance causes issues
with...
