These guys are discussing the right things. My experience was that what ever keeps it from hooking on a average track got worse with radials.

Thanks Dennis, I will start reading through that forum and see what I can learn.

Do you think setting the caltracs till they touch then 1/2 turn on drivers side and 1 full turn on the passenger is a good starting point since everything was moved around? or do you have an other suggestion.

Seymour, do you remember how the caltracs were set up before? I have never adjusted them before. I just did some reading since i moved the pinion angle and it what I wrote above seemed like a suggested starting point.

From everything i've read about radials, they are faster and preferred once the car is hooking well but they make a car with initial traction issues even worse. I'd like to some day be able to run Mickey Thompson drag radials but I need to figure out the suspension first.

Forget radials on that car! I remember being at the track once and another Cal Tracs user recommended more preload that I had been using, it didn't work but if that was that last race at Rock Falls they might still be set up that way. I really think that happened before I took the car all apart between 2010 and 2011 and that I would have adjusted them more to Cal Tracs recommendations when I put it back together after lowering the rear end. I don't really remember what those recommendations might have been. My experience was that playing around with the Cal-Tracs never made any real difference on an average track where the car would not bite initially.

If you can't get it on scales, start with no preload or even a small air gap. Cranking one side tighter than the other could lead to the car turni said g left or right at the hit.

You might need to start raising air pressure too if it is wadding thd gires at the hit.

:) I thought that is what you would say about radials. There is no way it could have radials on it the way it is. There is a very long way to go with suspension setup before I could even think about radials. I like the possibilities of higher mph and being faster on the 2nd 1/2 of the track but I don't like the possibilities of spinning into the wall because of lack of traction. Hopefully next weekend is successful and I can able to improve the bounce somewhat.

I'm going to keep reading and hopefully have a game plan on how to make adjustments at wilkesboro.

Ryan and I got some new front control arm bushings installed in the car sat. night. The old ones were toast. Not sure it will help the transbrake hit hopping the tires but it's peace of mind at the big end of the track that the front end is solid and doesn't have 1/2" of play any more. :D :D

Slanters hangin’ out workin’ on cars together. I’m jealous. I had a blast working on Flyin’ Brian’s Duster at Lou’s during the Motor Mile race. I need me a wrenchin’ Partner closer to home.

Yeah, gotta savor (and set up) those precious moments. Get a few of us together, and you can do some serious damage on a project!
