I have a cheap Toshiba Satellite laptop that I use as the interface for the MS3 Pro in the 68 Barracuda. The MS3 controls the FI and engine timing.

As I am knee deep in the re wire on that car, I would like to add a power port to the car that would allow me to power that lap top. One disadvantage to this
laptop is that it is only when the power cord is plugged in that it will give maximum screen brightness, necessary for reading the screen in outdoor conditions.
So I would power the laptop most all of the time.

The laptop charging module says
input 100-240 V 1.3 A 50-60 HZ
output 19V = 2.37 A

I know that I can get an automotive power inverter, but it seems silly to change the 12 to 14 volts that the car electrical system has to 110 volts just to knock
it back down to 19 volts.

any ideas?

I get your point about changing the power back and forth, but I'd recommend going that route. I had to do this for years, and a cheap inverter worked like a champ. A laptop takes very little power, I just plugged mine into the cigarette lighter, plugged the laptop into the inverter, and all was well.

The laptop may say it wants 19-19.5V, but they will usually work fine on ~14V. The only issue I've found is that the battery won't charge as quickly as at a higher voltage. I first discovered this years ago when I bought a very cheap laptop at a garage sale and it didn't have a battery. I connected a 12V SLA battery and it worked fine. Otherwise a cheap inverter is the way to go. I have one in my work truck for charging drill batteries and running test equipment.
