I'll be happy to trace a pattern for you if you want one. I made it a little beefier through the "V" area as a precaution. I don't know how much pressure is on the hood at 100MPH?? Not putting any holes in them as of now! :D :D

Also spoke to our engine builder friends about some "oiling" stuff. I told him that I was seeing about 75-80# at 6200 RPM and that I was running about 6 qts of oil in my modified deep pan. He strongly suggested cutting the oil pressure back to 60# or so. He also said that with an external pump, lines, remote oil filter and the added oil they hold that he would cut back my oil in the pan to at least 5 quarts. He at first said to go to 4 but he saw the look on my face! :D He says in their dyno testing, when they drop the oil level down some, and dropped the pressure back @15# they saw almost a 20 Hp increase on their engines. Granted they are building 8000rpm V8's but the principal is the same.
So I will be adjusting my oil level and my pressures this season to see if that helps at all. Even 5 or 10 Hp will show up in the ET. I have a LOPCOS so I don't have to worry too much! ( Low oil pressure cut off switch)

I run 5 quarts in my deep pan. Also at 60ish psi at 6500.

Those V8's they were mentioning.. are they wet sump Systems?

I would think that in a circle track engine the Oil goes to one place in the pan as well.

I just wonder as you were about that low of an oil amount in a dynamic situation. The oil in a dyno cell stays in a more consistent pathway loop back to the pickup.

so is he saying that with the 10psi/1000rpm rule, it is safe for 50psi@6000rpm ??

I don't know Terry. When I told him that my pressure climbs to 75-80# at high rpm, he said he would not be afraid at all of dropping to 60#. That is still pretty close to 10#/ 1000 at 6200 rpm's. I am also assuming that with a race motor with looser tolerances you would be pushing more oil out past the bearings at 80# than at 60#. Any oil flying around in the way of the crankshaft is a power robber.

They do build mainly dry sump engines but he and I were talking about wet sump systems.

60 psi is definitely fine, and I have run as low as 45-50 psi at 6000 RPM. I prefer 60. I do not like to run more than 65 at high RPM. Saves wear and drag and cuts down on rear main leaks (yes, observed).

For drags, you can get away with less oil than autoX or road course, especially if you put in an accel baffle at the back/top of the sump. For a handling car with sticky tires, you want to ensure you do not uncover the pickup and any few HP you lose will be a happy sacrifice instead of wiped main bearings. Braking and left turns are the hard parts, not accel and right turns.

I did a trial fit of the new hood to see how the "fit" was and it was very nice.

After I get the brackets epoxied and glassed in place I'll get the hood pins set and then the final sanding, straightening and painting.

Also finished up installing a new fuse center out under the hood. It looks a little better than my homemade one.

That is very nice looking, Rick! You do good work.

And thanks for the oil pressure discussion from everyone. The Challenger with the external oil pump also sits around 75-80#... Something I should look at adjusting me thinks. That pressure ain't hittin' the traps at the top end of the dragstrip at full song neither...

Best friend growing up was going through some old pictures and found this one of my Valiant. About 1979 :D :D The ground it sits on now has a 40X60 garage on it.
