More what kesteb said.... less what Joshie said.

You've got a cool car and you're young. We (or at least most of us here  ) would love to see you make progress on and enjoy your cool old ride! 8)

Keep posting, searching and asking.

Good luck with it and keep us posted!

What should I do with this car Joshua. Can't think of anything else. What would you recommend?

We used to run 6 quarts in the Lemons car (endurance road racing). Lou said he saw oil pressure starting to falter in long corners at Barber last year, so we went up to 7 quarts. We've never killed a slant from oil starvation, aside from a worn-out block from a parts car that had bad oil pressure standing still. Aside from that, every engine we've ever run still had 40 psi hot under load when it was pulled out for other reasons. Busted piston rings, for example. Now we gap our rings wide enough to withstand a nuclear apocalypse, but if your cooling system is in good shape that shouldn't be strictly necessary.

What Josh said is true, though. You're not likely to set any autocross records in a '64 Dart until you become a very good driver, at which point you can set records easier in something else. But that doesn't mean you can't build the car to handle well because you like driving it, and then have some fun killing cones on the weekends too. Just depends on what your definition of fun is.

I would definitely look into front disc brake upgrades, and rear axle upgrades that get you a higher numerical gear ratio. Both of those include options to get you the larger 5x4.5" bolt pattern all the way around. You definitely want that bolt pattern to have any kind of good wheel and tire choices. Also... bucket seats and 3-point belts (at a minimum).

I would decide what I wanted to do and then do that. :D Most of us enjoy our cars for what they are. The challenges they create, and the satisfaction of overcoming them. We are all just a little bit off or we would not be talking about Slant 6's at all!! :D

PS. I saw Lou's early Dart run on the small track up at Carlisle and he ran a time almost as fast as a high dollar, high horsepower, genuine race car! It can be done, and it can be lots of fun! Good luck. :D :D

The one problem with this car is that it won't go into park.
How could I fix this problem?

Is it a push button, or lever on the column?

You were not asking me but, I think you should come out and drag race with us. Just sayin'.

Were there 64' Dart GT's with Column Shift?
I've had (2),both with Push-Button, and (1) 170 column shift, and a 4-door 270 Push-Button, but I don't ever remember seeing a 1964 Dart GT with column shift.

It will be easier to make it a drag car than an auto crosser.

Make the car safe and reliable and bring it to the track. You can make it faster later; stronger engine, lower gear, sticky tires, and so on.
Look at the builds in the Virtual Dragstrip section. Lot's of info there.

The 64 darts with column shift were manual 3 speeds.

Do you guys think that the cable should be adjusted or should I replace it with a new one?
