I have a 65 valiant signet 2dr ht with gold carpet. I drive this car a lot and would like to change to a rubber floor mat. What is a good source for these? Any original from a junkyard will be brittle or tore. Does someone make a repop of these. Carpet is easy to find but I never seen an ad for rubber. Thanks in advance.

Your car will hold its value a lot better with its carpet intact. A better idea would be to buy the floormat from Layson's, trim the edges so it can be easily removed from the car, and wash it periodically.

My car has the original black carpeting, with vintage black Kmart full rubber floor mats. In addition to this I use modern black reservoir mats with sponge centers. Using this system I only have to shampoo the carpet once a year.

The best carpet cleaner I have used is the Bissell Little Green machine. I bought a Proheat model, but I would strongly advise against using it. The heating coil is actually embedded in cast aluminum, with a water passage cast into it. The problem is that there is always water present in the lines, and even using genuine Bissell soap doesnt prevent the heating coil from corroding, and this corrosion will plug the nozzle tip, and eventually choke the heater closed. I ended up bypassing the heater. You can get a base model steamer for about $75 US. Do not buy the more expensive models. The turbobrush is a useless piece of crap that is actually less effective than hand scrubbing, and the heating coil plugs up. Just put hot water in the reserve tank and it does the same thing.

Unless your carpet is shredded, don't tear it out.
