Hey Guys its been awhile! :D

I need to tune up my slant.What plugs/wires/cap and rotors do you reccomend? also should I replace the coil with something hotter? IF so with what?

Cap: Standard-Bluestreak CH-410X (DON'T use a NAPA Echlin cap)

Rotor: a NAPA Echlin long-tip rotor # MO-3000

Plugs: NGK ZFR5N gapped 0.040" if you've got a '74-down style head with the spark plug tubes

Plug wires: Magnecor

What year and type of vehicle are you working with?

yep, NAPA. Condenser is an AL111X. I use Autolite 985 plugs too.

Dan...Why do you not use the Echlin cap? I got one a few weeks ago (before knowing not to use them) and don't have any problems. :? I didn't know Standard/Blue Streak was still around.

The Echlin caps tend to be ground off-centre. Take a look underneath one sometime: The contact lugs on one side are almost a complete circle of brass, while over on the other side they're just a little sliver. I first encountered this problem when my '65 began running oddly shortly after I tuned it up. Pulled it apart and found the cap was a mess: The too-small contacts were burned, as was the rotor tip, while the too-big contacts had grooves machined into them by the rotor, which was broken (tip pointing off at a 15° angle due to constantly striking the too-big contacts). Brass powder everywhere. Yuck. I wrote to Echlin about it, sent them the cap and the rotor and a couple non-Echlin caps and rotors. They sent me two new Echlin caps (both with the same problem) and a letter saying they didn't see any problem. I most recently looked at a new Echlin cap last year...same problem.

The Echlin MO-3000 rotor, on the other hand, is a nifty trick piece. Its contact segment is 0.060" longer than stock, which reduces the gap between the rotor tip and the cap contact. Obviously, this makes the cap accuracy even more important (hence my advice to use a Standard-Bluestreak cap) but this smaller gap inside the dist cap "buys" you the ability to open the spark plug gap a little, which pays dividends in driveability.

The Autolite 985 is one of their versions of the NGK ZFR5N. I like NGKs better than Autolites, and both of them better than Champions. If your counterman insists on a make-model-year, tell him you want six spark plugs for a 2000 Jeep Cherokee with 4.0 litre engine.

Stepon: No condenser in a '73 (electronic ignition)

Dart4: No need to change the coil. NAPA carries Echlin. What other parts stores do you have in your area aside from AutoGroan?

You don't get Magnecor wires from NAPA, you get them from Magnecor.

You need P/N 6008 (7mm, $45), 6708 (8mm, $43) or 6508 (8.5mm, $74).

I have been using NGK whatever comes up in the Auto parts store computer.

NGK UR4, 6330 for the peanut plug head gapped at .045, at least that is what I have been running the last 2 years. I think Dan might have a part number for the cheaper standard tip peanut plug.

The .045 gap is using the Blue Streak cap and MO-3000 router and 8mm Summit spiral wrap wires.

Plugs are very, very light sandy cinnamon color.
