Went back to work on the car. Started at ground zero. Pulled the plugs, and did a compression test, About 150-160 across the board. Much higher then I expected. Went to check the valve lash and noticed a damper sticking out between the spring coils. Spent some time and made a tool to compress the springs on the engine. Going to change all the valve springs. This is the first obvious thing, I have found, that might be my misfire.

While I was at it I figured my dynamic compression ratio, 8.12

edit: don't know where I got that number from. did some rechecking and get 10.06 static, and 8.55 dynamic.

Replaced all the Crane valve springs with 340 springs. Had 6 springs with bad dampers. Hope the 340 springs are strong enough. The Crane springs were dual springs with dampers. Crane recommends 110 lbs on the seat and 285 open. The cam is only .460 lift and 290 adv dur, 228 at .050 dur. It seems like there a more then a couple racers running 340 springs with bigger cams then that.
More to come.

Crane specs were always stoopid, but cams worked well. I ran that cam with 340 valve springs, and maybe even stock springs once, and never had a valve float issue. I like that cam, but sold/gave it to a racer who then disappeared off the face of the earth!

We'll find out Wed nite, if this cures my misfire. I'm going to do a little more checking on the car, between now and then. We are going to take the Valiant and Cuda to Gainsville for a TnT. I will be driving the Cuda, and My friend Steve will drive the Valiant. Then Friday head for Rynolds Ga. with both cars, for the Slant six race.

Mixed results from the TnT.
Cuda ran fine, two runs, mid 13.508 at 98.08, then got a flat slick.
Valiant ran fine on motor, no misfires, guess it must have been the valve springs. Decieded to try a nitrous pass, Steve had never driven a nitrous car, and only had two passes in the 66 Valiant, so I was going to make the first pass. Installed the bottle, and pulled into the lanes. Someone told me it looked like the car had a leak. Yep, oil pressure switch leaking. Pulled it into the pits, removed the plug from the Cuda, and installed on the Valiant. Started valiant, check for leaks, and hear a rattling/knocking sound from the rear of the engine/front of the trans area. Only hear it in park/neutral, not in gear. I am hoping it is a loose converter/flexplate bolt issue. I will find out today. It was not doing this before going to the track.
The two runs were 14.96 at 87.44 mph and 14.84 at 88.27.

I always use blue. First time I have had any come loose. It didn't look like there was any on the threads. I might not have gotten them clean enough the first time.

Steve drove the car at the Ga race. Ran a best of 14.84 at 87.40 on motor.
I made one nitrous pass on Saturday and went 1.768 for 60 ft & 8.298 at 78.88 for the 1/8. 1/4 mile was 13.75 at 78.30. had to let off way early due to a little misfire and a bad front end shimmy/vibration.
Still have some problems, but nothing near as bad as it was.

Finally got a hood on the car. Barry Harrison, donated a glass hood, a few years ago. Another friend gave me a 6 pack scoop. Traded a pair of wheels to get the scoop put on and the hood installed. Total cost, about $50 (wheels).
