Just did a complete rebuild, car ran great but I noticed a little oil on the garage floor. Oil pump gasket leaking about 1 drop 1-2 minutes from block /pump gasket. So I go to service manual - no problem - yea right! Lifted motor did the 8" 2x4 for about 6 hours then discovered that my Clifford shorties were wedged against PS unit. Now off comes the Exhaust and Intake. Any Ideas??
Thanks
Tom

There is a problem with some of the "5 bolt" oil pump casting where they do not match the supplied gasket / engine block mounting boss.
(replacement oil pumps made by Dyna-gear have this problem)
The mis-match is on the suction side, where the pump meets the oil pick-up tube pocket in the block.

My solution to this is to glue-in a small piece of additional gasket material to get the proper seal. you can most likely do this by unbolting and pulling the pump back & away from the block by a few inches and slipping in the additional piece of gasket material.

If you need a photo showing the area and the "fix", let me know.

Thanks Doc,
Ye4a this is a 5 bolt pump I went to local Mopar dealer & ordered 3 pump gaskets overnited from Detroit Not even close. Any Idea what the gasket P/N would be for my 6 - 65 vintage? Pics would be nice TJP746@AOL.COM
Thanks
Tom

All the gaskets are cut the same so don't waste time looking for that "special" gasket.
I cut a small wedge of gasket material and glue it down in the area below the line I drew in the close-up shot below. I cut the gasket material from the "6th hole" area that is not used by the 5 hole pump.

The blacked-out area shown is the place where the casting is different on some of the 5-hole pumps and you can see a small "gap" where there is no flat area on the pump, needed to compress the gasket to make a seal.
( the pump manufacturer should correct their casting pattern to fix this)

Glue in a small section of gasket material below the line to complete the seal.

Just one more reason I've decided to reuse my original oil pump!
