I am looking for the elusive 1095 bulb for the inner two rear tail lights on my 66 Dart in order to keep brightness level consistent with the two outside 1157 tail lights (brake / turn). Most stores around the Portland area do not have them and can't make an accurate replacement recommendation (ie: wattage etc). From what I've found, the 1095 has an output of .51 watts.

Any sources / replacement recommedations would be appreciated.

Thanks

66Dart

Very tough bulb to find. I have 3,000 of them in stock. Sold by the 10-pack only. 10-pack costs, believe it or don't, $19.66.

Just FYI, the "output of 0.51w" is not correct. The 1095 is a 7.1w bulb (14v, 0.51A) with an output of 50 lumens, or 4cp.

I will never understand why Mopar used "brake & running light" on the out-board and running light only on the in-board, trunk mounted tail light section of the 65-66 Dart.

Me, I grab a couple of extra 1157 dual filiment bulb sockets and wire them into the in-board, trunk mounted bezals.
When I hit the brakes on my 65 Dart all 4 rear light assemblies go to the brighter "braking mode", not just the outer 2.
I no longer need to find special replacement bulbs, I use 1157s in all rear tail light positions.

Doc, that's a good idea*. The only thing you need to be mindful of is that you have now doubled the current load on the brake and turn signal light circuits. You're not going to burn down the car or anything dramatic (they're built better than that) but you will slow down the rise time of the brake lamps before they get to full intensity, which is definitely safety negative. make sure the wires are clean and in good shape, run a ground wire to the back of the car and hook the other end to the alternator housing or battery negative terminal and, when you eventually get the chance, upgrade this wire with heavier-gauge.

*-even better idea to use 3496 instead of 1157. Same wattage but 40% brighter in the "bright" (brake/turn) mode.

Dan -

Thanks for the info / specifications and purchase info.

Should I contact you directly through your 'web' site to arrange the purchase of the bulbs @ '19.66' for the '1966' Dart ?

If so, I'll be in touch.

Thanks

Hey Dan, just to add, I like the new bulbs (tail/brake, side marker, backup) I got from you for my Dart, the lights are brighter (plus some corrosion was present I would have never seen until the bulbs burned out). And the LED 3rd brake light works great. It actually comes on a split second before my brake lights come on :D .

One thing I was wondering, since I never bothered to look before. When the brake light is applied and the blinker is on, the tail light blinks, but the brake light does not stay on (on the tail light that is blinking) in between blinks. Is that because there are only two filaments in the bulbs and is a normal thing?

If the brake light were to stay on (on the blinking side) there'd be no blinking at all, because there are only two filaments: dim (tail) and bright (park/turn).

Glad you like the new lights! The LED centre brake light comes on about 200 milliseconds quicker than the bulbs.
