I am the proud new owner of a (i think) complete super six set-up. A few questions; My car (a 1970 Dart 225, A904) doesn't have an EGR system, but the manifold has the EGR valve on it and, I assume the carb (picked today from a junkyard '80 aspen) has allowances for it (there are way more vacuum ports on the carb than I have things needing vacuum) what should I block off to eliminate the EGR system? There is what can only be described as a tree with 5 ports on it that screws in to the sixth runner on the mani. I don't have or want power brakes, so should I block the hole in the runner? All, and I mean all of the vacuum lines were gone so I'm not too sure how to route the lines for the door in the air cleaner or the other lines. Any advice? Anything I'm missing? I have the Kickdown linkage and throttle cable, I'm just not 100% sure how it all goes together. Anyone have good pictures of the super six properly set up?

The cleanest way to do this is to remove the EGR valve from the new intake manifold, and replace it with a blockoff plate you can buy from the dealer. Part number is 3671 447. Be sure to use a new gasket when you install the blockoff plate.

Yep, you'll find your original '70 intake has a plug screwed into the #6 runner. You can simply remove the plug from the '70 intake and install it in place of the vacuum tree.

If you'll take some clear photographs of your carburetor from multiple angles (both sides, front, rear, top), then I and/or others can indicate what should get hooked up to what.

There've been pictures posted on the forums, and there's a good, clear one in this article (click any picture in that article to make it larger).

This is probably a good time to do the fuel line mod and put in one of the #1232 adjustable electric choke kits.

A: Choke pull off fittings. Connect these together with a short length of suitably-sized hose.

B: PCV. Connect to your PCV valve on the valve cover.

C: Thermostatic air cleaner vacuum supply.

D: Distributor vacuum advance.

E: Float bowl vent. Leave open and uncapped on your '70.

F: EGR venturi vacuum tap. Cap securely (no vacuum leaks!)

G: Charcoal canister purge. Cap securely.

Looks like a clean, intact carburetor, a good candidate for a careful rebuild with a quality kit.

Total bummer on the car damage. Where in Vancouver did this happen? :-(

Thanks SSD, and I figured out how to read the BBD manual I downloaded from you. Now, on to the kickdown and throttle linkages. The air cleaner, KD linkage and throttle cables were all pulled for me by a friend who happened upon the car and knew I was after slant six parts. My question; will the KD linkage bolt up to the existing 1bbl throttle cable/KD bracket or is that something else I need? If I can use the same bracket, how do I link up the throttle cable? Judging by the diagrams, the throttle cable looks to come from farther back in the super six set-up (admittedly I'm not looking under the hood as I type this, so it may be a total non-issue). Also, is it possible to install the engine with tranny mounted without dropping the K-frame? I am putting this set-up on a new engine which is still attached to the trans and thought to get the KD adjusted on the bench and to avoid as much crawling around on my back as possible. Crazy?

You could hack it all together if you absolutely had to, but it's much better to have the correct Super Six linkage bracket, as pictured in the article I linked to (see above).

No, it's sensible.

Please do heed Charrlie_S' request and post smaller (filesize) pictures. 72dpi rather than 180, and try for a filesize of 50kb or less per image.

On my 71 Duster I have the float bowl vent outlet hooked up to the outlet on the fuel pump. Is this ok?

On a '70 California or '71 50-state-plus-Canada car, there is a hose nipple on the fuel pump's body (not on the pump chamber itself where they all have an inlet and an outlet, but on the rectangular part of the pump between the round pump chamber and the bolt-on flange). This extra hose nipple is where the float bowl vent gets connected on such a car. '70 49-state-plus-Canada and all other year vehicles don't have that extra hose nipple.

Thanks everyone for the help so far. Had to take some time off from car stuff. Crazy work schedule.
I have some questions about some fittings on my air cleaner;


At the 12 O'clock position in this pic there is a hole that looks to have had a hose coming off it. What is it for and should I block it off?

I assume the fitting at the 8 O'clock position is for the vac line from the carb, no?

Also, What's this schnibbin for?

It has a port which is labeled "CARB" and a smaller one above (the air cleaner is upside down in the shot). Is this something I need to be using? What is it for?

The 12:00 hole of approximately 5/8" diameter was for an aspirated air injection system on the donor car. It's on the clean side of the air cleaner, so plug it securely. A leak here will admit dirt to the engine. The 8:00 hole does indeed connect to the nipple I labelled "C" in your earlier batch of pics. The fershlugginer schnibbin on the side of the air cleaner is an OSAC valve. Disregard it; don't hook it to anything and there's no need to plug its fittings.
