HAVE THE POWER ON. THE OIL IN THE REAR WAS LOW, PULL THE RIGHT
AXLES, OUT REPLACE THE BEARING AND SEAL. THE WHEEL ON THE RIGHT SIDE WOULD MOVE IN AND OUT ABOUT 1/2". AXLES CAME JUST MY PULLING, AND THE AXLES WAS HOT.
REPLACE THE OIL AND STILL HAVE THE HOWLING.

That's not good. You are going to need to get it checked out. Could need new gears, bearings and the lash will need to be set.
How are you set for tools and a place to work on it? Depending on your answer, you may find yourself in the need to find a mechanic to do this work.

Where are you located? What kind/type rear end? 1963 Valiant did not have a model 240 in the states, or is that just a mistype?

First of all it is a 225 Sorry. I do that all the time, good thing there is only two eng.

I am a back yard mechanics, have the basic tools, and people who can help me work on the car.
I have been working on the car for about 6 years, it runs good, rebuild the eng about 4year ago.
First thing I am going to do is pull the cover off see what I can find. Do I have to take the rear axle assembly out of the car to replace the bearing and or gears? Any help you can give me on what to look for, please do.

Actually, there's three....170, 198, & 225, but the 198 was available only from 1970-1974.

Your spelling and syntax is a touch "off", so I assume you aren't residing in the U.S., (not that it makes much difference).
You mentioned being able to remove a rear cover, so it's most likely a 7.25" rear.
Make sure you catch the rear lube when you take that cover off. Shine a bright light into it and look for metallic particles. If you have a rather high concentration of them, that will tell you something.
There's a good chance it's one of the side bearings supporting the ring gear carrier. If you decide to remove the carrier from the housing, pay special attention to any shims that might be there, and make sure you keep them in the order that they came out.
It might be to your benefit to remove the rear end assembly and let a pro do the repairs, as one typically needs some special tools to properly set up the ring & pinion gear clearances, and that's not usually a task well suited to a backyard mechanic's skills.

The engine will not make a difference. If the car is not North American made, it might not have a 7 1/4 rear. That is what I am asking.

I'm in the process of reworking an early 7 1/4 rear, and it really is not easy.
If you are changing wheels, you might want to upgrade to an 8 1/4 or 8 3/4 differential. You might need to get the axles cut down to fit your early A body, somebody on this site can tell you that if you decide to do it. Then you will need to change the front brakes to a large bolt pattern, and it would be a big improvement to go to a dual master cylinder and disc brakes.

If a rear axle assembly is run low on oil and starts making gear noise, it is near impossible to get them quiet again. (the gears' contact surfaces wear and can not be repaired with-out replacement)

The good news, the unit may run for a long time with a "howl" in the gears... as long as there are no chipped teeth and the bearing are OK.

If you want to get rid of the howl, it may-be best to replace the entire rear axle assembly with a good used unit.

Just to add, I have some similar issues with my rear end, 1965 slant 225, dodge dart, as I purchased the car, I took it to the shop for a rear end service, they took off the rear cover to drain the oil and then we saw the two little grears,,I think they called spider gears,, some of the tooth were like 0.010 thousands of and inch worned up,,so I'm just going to look for a rebuilt in the hall rear end, or replace itwith a newer one with the bigger bolt pattern.

and yes, I have that english accent too, sorry, I whent to school in Mexico.
