How dependable is the 3 speed with OD manual tranny in a '73 truck. Is this type of truck used just to go get grocery's or will they tow a trailer? Thanks for your help!!!

The a-833 is a good design, they were put behind the hemi and 440. The OD units are a little weaker due to the redesign to make it have overdrive and most being aluminum cased.

What are you planing on pulling?

Will it pull a 22 ft dove tail trailer with a car . I think I already know the answer but I really want a /6 truck. My 305 chevy truck has a hard time with this trailer. I'm picking up this truck in a cpl of days. So I have never driven it but wanted to ask the question.

Well a 22ft trailer is kind of a large load for any half ton pickup.

I would say that would be pretty tough on the motor and trans, it would work but it will probably be just like the 305, maybe worse.

i have an 81 with 225 ,a-833 ...bone stock cept i just put a limitedslip with 4.10 instead of 3.55 open...big difference in truck,also increase in gas milage
