:D

Took out my carb for rebuilt today so I finally tested the mockup.
Needs minor tweaking (bolts position seems a little off and fast idle cam is too close), but it looks good.
Had to ditch the extension since it interferes with my air cleaner pre-heater hose.

Need help figuring out the variations (colored strokes) to make an easy-to-use universal template.
I guess the red one has something to do with a positive throttle return spring which I don't have on my carb, but what about the others?

I experienced heat soak for the first time this weekend on my '72 /6 Scamp. I've been using the search feature to learn about heat soak/vapor lock and building a heat shield.

What ever happened with building this prototype? This thread had a ton of activity and then just died?

The cost of doing a small run of a factory clone seemed to out-weigh the interest on the forum. I see this thread as a nice DIY with detailed info and scale drawings (with measurements). I'd love to have at least 1 quality clone for a 1bbl and a 2bbl version. So if there is enough interest I can price out a simple aluminum heat shield run based on what I have.

I see some drawings that have some (but not all) measurements. Looks like the ball got dropped after someone asked for the rest of the measurements, like the edge lengths and stuff like that.

Never finished that project…
I tested the mockup on my van a while ago and it needed some tweaking and I could not use the extension because the preheater hose was in the way.
I can post an .eps or .dwg of the work in progress if you guys want to test it further and make it work.

I spoke with a sales rep at US Plastics about phenolic sheets to use. There are many different grades of phenolic material, I wanted to know which would be best for our purpose. The answer was "none", they recommended using PTFE sheeting. There 3/8" x 12" x 12" sheet is $105 - but I found some much cheaper on Ebay. Not sure what I'm gonna do yet.
