G'day guys,

Can anyone advise what is the ultimate money no object ignition system?

Motor will have a 4/71 & be fully worked (long rod, knife edged crank, race head etc). Ideally I want something that I could adjust the timing when only running 95 octane fuel, and then have another setting for 98 octane with the water/meth injection switched on.

I've been speaking to ICE ignitions here in Australia as they have one for the Chrysler Hemi 6 cylinder which is a 7 Amp 2 Step Street / Race Boost Control Ignition Kit , however it won't fit the slant as it fouls on the inner guard. They've now got a distributor with a small cap so currently looking into if that one will fit, fingers crossed...

If not, what's the next best option?

I would use a locked electronic ign Mopar dist, and drive a MSD 6AL-II digital programmable ignition box with Blaster II coil and a MAP sensor (about $450 total). You can do boost retard, 2 steps, and about any other ign function you want. I have this on my boosted 68 Dart. There are a million other options, but this one allows full computer programming of ign advance/retard, hot spark, and multiple functions.

Yes, but not without some more specificity. Are you up for fabricating parts to run a crank-triggered distributorless ignition system? If so, see here and here and here.

If you will be sticking with a dizzy, then the system you want is not ready yet. See this thread on another board (read the whole thread, it gets very interesting).

Clarification for North American readers: those are Australian octane numbers (RON). They translate to North American numbers of about 91 and 94 or so, respectively.

Small caps and high-zap ignition systems is crossfire under the cap. The six rather than eight cylinder configuration helps (more space between cap terminals) but you still have to watch out for it.

I haven't used this myself but another option for fully programmable timing control (with dual switchable tables) is the MegaJolt Lite Jr system:

Just wanted to let all you guys know that further discussions with Michael at ICE Ignitions here in Oz have continued. He's willing to send me a dummy Hemi-6 distributor to test install on the slant to measure clearances etc which is just unreal.

I'll let you know how it goes. Note these systems are not cheap ($1200+ AUS depending on kit), however the quality, performance and after sales service is second to none. His ignitions have been on many of the winning Engine Masters motors for a couple of years now.

Those links Dan posted are spot on in my book...want a good ignition for a boosted engine? 3 options,EDIS,EDIS or EDIS.Thats what my suggestion would be.Use a megajolt lite controller to program curves,you also can have an engine temp input and 3 (from memory)programmable outputs for cooling fans,meth injection or whatever you like.If you have an early (pre VE) Val,the hemi distributor wont fit without modifying the inner guard.Go distributorless in my book if you want something trick that is truly bullet proof.

I have to agree that if you want to spend big $$, you may as well go with distributorless ignition. I know some racers have also used the Electromotive coil pack ign with crank trigger on their Slants. I like the looks of the Megajolt too.

I am very pleased with my Electromotive system. Timing is far more steady then it was with a welded up Unilite.
