This was one from the group buy years back where the areas around the bolt holes weren't completely polished.

It's leaked on and off over the years... I'm coming to fuss with it now and realized its warped. It rocks back and forth on the head with no gasket. When I put a straight edge on the gasket surface I can see rail between the center two bolts (on both sides) is high. I notched the lip so it won't interfere with the two bolt bosses on the head used for lifting.

I don't know if I somehow managed warping it or it came warped.

Just for sanity check - does anyone have a brand new one they can put a straight edge against? Put it on the actual gasket surface, not the lip.

I was part of the group buy last year, same deal, warped like Star Trek. I ended up buying a gasket from: "Real Gaskets Tennesse". That seemed to seal alright. Try using 2 felpro gaskets glued together with high temp rtv. These valve covers look great, but if this is a testament to offys quality then I probably won't give them my money. Dan tried explaining it to them, but they kinda gave the bird to us.

I too use two glued gaskets and had to take a little material off the inside of the cover to clear a few head bolts.

Someday I am going to to take a stock stamped steel valve cover to a media blasting company and have them strip it and polish it for me. It will be shiny and I know it will fit and work.

Ok - I knew the deal about the polishing and excessive metal around the bolt holes. I didn't know about the warping part. Whew, so it wasn't just my ape-of-a-torquing-hand that did it.

I didn't get it because of the bling factor. I got it because of the easier to seal factor, which turned around and bit me. I wonder if the aussie cast cover is any better.

Mine does not leak. It was part of a group buy about 5years ago. How much of a gap do you see under your straight edge? If it is not TOO much it seems a machine shop could machine the gasget surface for you. It would not be cheap, but if you have it already you might as well fix it. You've already spent the purchase money either way.

I sanded mine to make the sealing surface nice and straight. It was a little off when new. I used a piece of hardwood for a sanding block, started with some 120 grit, worked down to a fine grit until it was really smooth. Seemed to seal well after that....didn't notice the warpage issue, it was pretty straight that way. I just ordered another, hope it's not warped...[/u]

My first offy cover was nice and straight, but my new one is warped as you say. I need to glue two gaskets together, even with the real gaskets silicone gasket, when I bolt it down there is no seal on one side.

What two gaskets did you glue together with high temp RTV?

Call Offy and tell them this is unacceptable and get them to replace it. Especially since you just bought it.

I never bought one,but lets face it,if a product was a Chinese made part and it had these problems it would be heavily criticised by most people and rapidly get a bad reputation....here's something made in the USA and its no better. It was a group buy,why not make it a group return! Make them stand by their product.

Offy stuff isn't made in the USA.

You have got to be joking.... Another one bites the dust... Still, poor quality control and product development is unacceptable ,so not only do you have to modify them to accommodate a PVC system you now have to use 2 gaskets to make them seal? I would send them back regardless of where its made. Who knows,maybe they are unaware of the problem and will gladly make it right....maybe.

They could just be only cast offshore. At one point within the last 8-9 years some items were still machined here, but that could have changed since then. Still poor quality control any way you look at it.

Since my first one was straight, I didn't think of this issue. I had it sent straight to my fabricator who did a nice stand pipe and baffle for the PCV and powder coated it for me....even if offy gave me a straight one I'd never be made whole for the other work...and it looks so nice too...

Maybe the dual gaskets will work and I can stop thinking about it....

Did your fabricator weld you PVC pipe and baffle in the valve cover, if so, thats what warped it more than likely.
