Dave will be visiting with Ken over at OCG tomorrow. He's working up a mileage cam for his brown car, so needs to drop a core by.

Hopefully we'll have some more info soon! :D

Ken returned my call this evening! :D
He is working to get the billets made right now. Currently he has ten full billets in the works, and there may be an opportunity to purchase a wider selection of rough ground blanks when the time comes. (Read; different LSA's and profiles on the rough ground cam blanks.)
Those that are interested, should post here with the grind they would like. I can get that information to Ken, or you can call him directly with your requests. He's still working with the billet manufacturer. That we are not ordering 1000 of them makes this low priority for his source.

I will be looking over the OCG profiles that will fit what I need, and sending it in to Ken. If you want to get in on this, I recommend that you contact OCG directly. Just be aware that the cost of these cams will be higher than over the counter flat tappet cams.

Make sure you understand, with a billet cam, a mechanical fuel pump will not be possible. The steel follower on the fuel pump would rapidly cut the eccentric to nothing, and plug up your oil filter with metal. There will be no fuel pump eccentric. This isn't a street car cam.

For a billet cam, you will need a bronze oil pump gear, if you are running a mechanical oil pump. If you are running a distributor, nylon will do. For a Magneto, you will need a bronze gear.

I know it's overkill, but what if you fashioned a roller on the end of the mechanical fuel pump arm? just a thought.

I guess it's a moot point if there is no eccentric anyway.

Got a call from Dave this evening! :D

Contact Ken at OCG to order your Billet Cam. Looks like they will run about $575 finish ground. LSA can be had from ~108-~114° That gives most plenty of wiggle room!

Don't know specifics about delivery times, so talk to Ken about that. He may be doing these in small batches. Call and talk to him about your time frame to make sure this deal is for you.

Here is the link to OCG Roller Cam Grinds.

There are five pages of profiles. Choose wisely! :D

I have added this link to the Engine FAQ as well. Ken has five blanks ready to be prepped to your specs. Looks like a great many of these grinds will be possible! Call Ken to determine what grind to put on your billet cam.

The fuel pump lobe has been finished as well. Followers to extend life of this surface would be a good idea. A bronze shoe would likely work well.

I'm about to call Gary to see if he found the roller lifters he thought he had stashed in his collection of stuff.

The cam card for this one is located in the User Submitted Cams under the FAQ in Engine. Click on OCG Roller.

Interesting....
You seldom see a billet SL6 roller cam... especially with a somewhat mild profile.

Indeed. Based on the engine speed, and the blower, that was what was recommended by Crane and Ken at OCG. It is pretty mild.

yes I second that, I have intentions on getting one of these as well, but the funding situation has changed for me at the moment,

ceej,

Looking into that. Dave runs Crane. There are a few options.

The main reason for the lift limitation is the Jeffery head. The springs are on the edge of supporting the lift I've got.

One important aspect with lifters is, there is no pressurized oiling for the roller. It needs to live with drain back and splash from the oil spurt holes. That limits what can be used for the application. Some are specifically built to run in pressurized oil systems.

I will be calling Ken about lifters tomorrow. When I called Friday, he was off for the weekend. Good for him! :D One of the guys told me they had an option for about $400. Beats the Crane, Comp, and various other name brand prices. Roller lifters aren't generally sold with the link bars, as there are different offsets in installations. The Crane lifters are over $500 without unless you hit a smokin' sale. We don't need v bars, or offsets. Straight bars are fine.

I may order another for a different build. Thinking about building a stretched Crackerbox with the ti rods.... It'd get me back on the water.

Ken has his in-house roller lifters that should be the ticket for this application. They sell sets of 16 for about $400. These have a permanent link bar mounted, so if one goes bad, the set of two has to be replaced.

He is looking into getting sets of 12 for us. If that works out, we may see a lower price yet. :D
