Further information: OCG's in-house lifters are Morel brand. Pressurized oil is not needed. From what I gleaned from our conversation, the lifters that use pressurized oiling to the needle bearings can operate without. Crane has a very good lifter design too.

I had a talk with Gary this morning about lifters. He doesn't recommend any roller lifters other than the Morel, Crane, and Cam Effects. He doesn't think Cam Effects make a lifter that fits the .903" lifter bore.

For some interesting Youtube action, type in Gary Eickmann. There's a rear facing camera shot from a pass he made that is quite eye opening, once all the staging and so forth are done. :D

There's still a bit of delay for Ken to get cores. He needs to know specifically what numbers you need so they can rough grind, copper plate and then ship to him for finish grind. It took a couple weeks to get a core to OCG for finish work. After that it's real quick!

FYI,

I stopped by OCG today on the way through Vancouver from another Jobsite, just out of curiousity. Ken is going to call me early next week, he said that the manufacturer made a run of 10 blanks of which he only sold about 5...

He is going to check with his manufacturer, since they ordered 10 blanks, but only sold 5, he said if these last ones are still available they will not be as cheap as the previous run since they are a one off run with low popularity...

Just thought I would pass along what I know, since I was in the area. If they have a blank available I will be having them grind it for a future build (actually a past build, as I researched and penciled it out while in Iraq).

3 months later...

I got my cam, it's beautiful...

I thanked Ken for going the extra mile to get a "one off" produced, he thanked me for the business and told me to thank the slant six community, he told me it's a real pleasure to work with us.

They are nice! I think I'll order a spare next week.

What lifters are you guys using, and are they suitable for street use?

Thanks,

Lou

I haven't decided on the brand yet...my choices were going to be Morel, Crane, or possibly Comp Cam since they have a set with longer "ears" for the capture bar so notching the lifter bay bottom may not need to happen. I have not picked them yet, I have plenty of time until next year's tax return comes in and have a couple last items to gather up before the block goes to the machine shop.

Right now I am collecting my 'easter eggs'... unlike the cam CJ has, I paid the extra $200 to have them put out a blank for my "milder" cam lobe selection, since mine will be for street use. (So the cam cost $800 total with grinding and shipped to my door-and has the oil pump/dizzy gear and fuel pump lobe...which isn't really bad considering the Cox billets were $1000+ shipping cam grinder+ grinding costs+ more shipping to home+ no dizzy gear/fuel pump lobe)...

The finished product will most likely get "shook down" in the blue duster, then transferred to the FDX car once I get that stripped, repaired and restored.

Thanks, DI. Could you post your final cam specs?

Cheers,
Lou

Since this will be a street hyperpak motor, I had to make some compromises....

I opted to be closer to the performance flat tappet cams i have recently raced, but had to limit the overlap event for the intake manifold.

My grind is OCG 828 224/224 @.050 109 LSA .539 lift...ground 105 centerline, will install at 101

Should act like an Erson 270, should have good torque characteristics without the low idle vacuum I've seen on the big cams with tight LSA.
The roller lobe should help keep things tight on valve events during ram tuning.

My other choice would have been the 1354 grind, but the lift to duration for street would have not been optimal.

Great. Thanks for the specs and the thoughts.

Best,
