Hey all,

I was told that I should post my project here and I decided, sure why the hell not?

Image

Here's a little backstory:
I'm new to the auto hobby world, and got this D100 from my mom in TX. Drove it back from TX through New Orleans, to Nashville before the dash lit on fire (which we later found out was because of a bad wire on the plug for the voltage regulator)!

Overcharged the whole system, melted the ballast resistor plug, everything was gooey!

Got back on the road using a multimeter and a power strip in line with the alternator to prevent overcharge, and made it out of the mountains to Knoxville where I got it fixed. haha

Few days later we were back in NY the day of the first snow. From there I was determined to fix this big hunk of sheet metal.

Well I got that far, and the winter has kicked me out of my makeshift paint booth, and on to other things.

SO I was thinking, well, I have all winter...Let's Turbo It!

Still in the middle of the research step right now, but from what I've gathered from the forum here, the slant should be able to take a quiet 10psi with stock components (assuming it's not all beat up inside).

Currently designing a blow through system, and have these components:

Garret Turbo from an 2.3L Audi 9-5 Aero (2005)
Image

Super-Six 2BBL that I was lucky to get off craigslist for 70 bucks
Image

Modified Holley 500 CFM Blow Through Carburetor (Not 70 bucks) lol
Image

and lastly, a wideband standalone O2 AFR setup from AEM
Image

That's it for now, but if anyone shows interest, I'll be happy to post more stuff!

Thanks all for watching.

(P.S. If anyone knows where I can get an old 5 1/8" blow through bonnet that doesn't restrict air flow, and doesn't cost 250 dollars, please let me know. I feel like I'm in the desert and running out of places to look for water. Damn things are in hiding, or just don't exist.)

-Greg

Looks great! Spectre was making a nice aluminium bonnet for about $90. I have one on a NA Slant.

I was wondering about that spectre bonnet. It looked a little bit like a tin can to me on the internet.

How do you like it? Does it seal well?

I have a Spectre bonnet on my turbo'd slant six with a Holley 4bbl (4150) and am very happy with it. Its construction is fairly robust and it seals well. I'd recommend it.

Sweet project! You're further along than I thought after just reading your introduction.

Thanks everyone. It's been a long road so far, and I'm probably only 1/3 the way there haha.

Just pushed it into the corner for the winter, and wanted to post this pic to at least prove it has a Slant :)

Buying the spectre hat too. Thanks!

There is a heavy-duty gasket about 1/8"-thick that Summit sells to go between the carb and the Spectre hat. It is highly recommended. Won't blow out, with a reasonable amount of clamping force from the center bolt...

Good luck!

School is out for a little bit here, so I've gotten a little more time to gain some momentum on the dodge. Man, the reading is endless on this stuff, always learn something new that pushes me in another direction.

My friend is coming through Sunday to help me fab a custom straight through exhaust. If everything works out it'll be TIG time, and I'll be sittin' pretty with a new J-pipe and 3" system to bolt the turbo to. Rock and roll. More updates soon.

Turbo smile
