What would you do with the PCV valve on a race car. Keep it, eliminate and replace with a draft tube, or header evacuation system. Is there a performance advantage to getting rid of it. I would guess there is. This will be on a brand new race motor

I really liked the header evac system on my bogger. It made jetting easier. It really pulls hard at WOT....something PCV cannot do.

No problems keeping the PCV valve, even on 'race' engines. I have never had any issues with them. They don't hurt performance any.

I was wondering if the blow by that it pulls into the engine hurts performance at all. I would guess it does not help.

I wecond Sandy's pan evac system. Will help rings seal, and you can run the carb leaner.

I have always run a PCV, but my crap was always low tech.

I ran an evac system into the header collectors back in the day on a V8. The only thing that I noticed was the oilly sheen was gone on the back of the car when I took it off and went with a pcv system.

I have run PCV on every engine I have ever run, turbo included. Someday I'll try the evac system. Note that none of my stuff is very fast and most of it I drive also on the street...

On a race only motor, with open ehaust, I would go with the evacuation system. On a street/strip engine (mufflers), a PCV Valve.
Actually threre is no reason you can't run both. The PCV system is most effective at high intake vacuum (idle thru low throttle), while the evacuation system is most effective with high velocity/low exhaust back pressure, and wide open throttle.

A good evac system will pull enough vacuum in the crankcase to reduce windage and increase horsepower.

Are any of the kits better than the other? I see some have a slot cut in the nipple that is installed in the pipe and some don't. Will one be enough or do I need to run two? Thanks

For my race cars I tend toward light weight solutions.
Presently looking for thinner hose clamps.

Back in the day, most of the commercial systems were based on Mopar breather caps, some rubber heater hose and the one way gulp valve from the GM air pump system. The starting prices were usually several hundred dollars for about $20 worth of parts.

The usual BS for"High Performance" parts. Was the power improvement worth the cost. Not really, kinda like gap less rings, sounds good in theory, for a very limited usage range. But really hard to justify in real life.

I should have enough stuff around to put together a evac. system. Hang tight for a day so I can check.

Ok Will thanks! I was really just asking for the new engine which will be a more serious race motor. It will not be going in until after the June race at Bristol. It sounds like it will be fine either way. But if you have the stuff just bring it to Mason Dixon in May!
