Since I am about to hook up the lines on this Aspen on a new Firm Feel Box, I remember that the Gran Fury and Dippy cop cars had a small "u" cooler with fins near the K-member.

Does anybody run a power steering cooler, and if so what brand model?

When I transplanted the power steering from a 1978 Dodge Magnum into my 1972 B300 I kept the cooler from the Magnum. Unless one is road racing or autocrossing I wouldn't bother buying one. I'd just use synthetic ATF.

Back when I rebuilt the 83 D150 I added a U shaped power steering cooler, got it from a pull a part off a late 90's Dodge Ram truck, I think it was $5.00

I have the cop car style on my 'Cuda. Most newer cars that still use hydraulic steering have a cooler on them. I think they are worth the effort.

plumbed the cooler on the low pressure return side, the late '90's OE dodge Ram PS cooler was mounted up in front of the radiator, for the '83 I mounted it to the frame by the PS box,,

If you don't mind cross-pollinating later Ford pick-ups have a really nice PS cooler on the lower-left front of their core support. I'm using one for a return fuel cooler on an off-road truck. I added tube nuts and cut then flared the aluminum tubing to -6AN.

Interesting discussion. Why is a PS cooler needed? I know they exist, but I figured they were for heavy duty applications like racing, construction and police vehicles, etc.

My guess is that they extend the p/s pump life for warranty reasons on late model cars.

Pretty much everything off-road related runs one. High fluid temps hurt all of the seals in the whole system. Unless fitted with hydro-boost I'm not sure that a street car requires one, but it sure can't hurt.

My first justification was the extra heat input to the gearbox from the sometimes very close non shielded headers, which I elected to remain non shielded, and that's a topic for another thread. :D
