3111 looks great. With Fat Cow supporting 5.5, would that have a different look?

Still, the colors look good and I don't see anything flashing or moving around. It's the steady, consistent platform I think we want.

Have you considered selling select ad space to members? No animated crap. For instance, sell Charlie an ad where he could list his business card. Something where say for $20 year a static row of business cards could be posted in the slanted network. Members only. A minimum post count requirement, non-BS. Something like that?

Brainstorming here...

CJ

I like it. Need further brainstorming. I've thought about a revolving banner ad at the
bottom of the screen where it wouldn't be intrusive. It would rotate through several paid ads.

I looked at the 3111 version. It looks fine, but I cannot say I like it better than the current/old version.

It would be nice to have the words "quote", "edit", "pm", "delete" etc with the buttons in the upper right so I don't have to figure out what all the little symbols mean. Also, I do not see a button to "pm" the poster. I use this a lot.

It looks/looked easier to post an image link, but the pic does not show up and I can't figure out why. Maybe that is not enabled on the new site?

I like the "online" banner that shows who is online too.

That's my feedback for now. Thanks again, Chuck!

Lou

Lou,

I just discovered that your profile is not using the latest "theme" that I built. I will try to force that change. Take another look.

I had a PM message in my "outbox", since Feb 2016, that I couldn't delete. Just went to the "NEW" board, and was able to delete it.

Yes, now not in red and buttons are better. Thanks, Chuck. I still cannot see the linked image I inserted. I put in a link to this "flickr" page:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/16910097@N06/34374872421/in/dateposted-public/

And it does not link/display.

I would personally pay more money every year to not have to look at ads.

However, if they were unobtrusive ads from board members or select companies, then that would be fine.

Here's the key words in Lou's post. If "we" were to go with the paid ads, I suggest they would have to be quite pertinent to the theme of the board. Maybe something from Rock Auto?

Chuck, I'm not seeing the 3111 site in red, but more of a two-tone tan or brown. That could be my 'puter settings, though.
I would have preferred the old board, but I'm the type that doesn't care a lot for change. I'll get used to the new look, so don't let me throw a monkey wrench into what you're doing, Chuck.

It will take some getting used to ( I don't like change either) but it looks good to me. Big thanks for getting it back up! I'll send money after payday.

Yea, that is one of the problems with the old board. Something is corrupted with PMs.

I don't know anything about that yet. I was checking out uploading pictures.

Thanks! Still working on it, but I think we need to move to this new software to get rid of some nagging problems that we had.

I'm trying to get it to look as close as I can to the old board. I don't like to change just for the sake of changing either. I'm reviewing all suggestions. This site is WAY easier to modify than the old one. At some point I might want to see if there is someone we can hire to modify things that I can't figure out.

That's what I had in mind. Vendors might not like my idea, but I thought about putting the ads at the BOTTOM of the pages to that you have to scroll down to see them. I don't like them "in my face" either.

I was thinking about members like Tom Drake with his powder coating and Dan S with his lighting company. Some members (like you) have donated a lot to the board, so I think there could be some compensation for them if they wanted ads.

You have to use URL instead of IMG. I changed it so you should be able to edit that post to see what I did.

OK, just confirmed with GoDaddy that they don't have a backup before the "migration" They probably just moved the files and screwed the pooch!

I am going forward with the new board.

Anyone know Herman Meiners (BigBlockMopar). He hosts many sites for car owners and I am considering going with him. Here is what he told me:

"Iíve had some bad experiences with a few previous webhosters, which let me to do my own webhosting and domainname registration.

Iíve been running a small hosting service as a hobby for myself and a good number of other people and companies. Been doing this for some 12 years now.
Currently I'm hosting some 80+ website-domains on my VPS (virtual private server) and more than half of them have active websites / mailservices behind them.

For me this is a hobby, but even still, I feel very responsible for the data on those websites and the people depending on it. Uptime is the most important thing for me, as is keeping (server )software up-to-date."

Sounds good to me.
