 Post subject: Braided steel line?

Any recommendations on what braided lines to use for my external oil pump lines? Lots of choices. Has to come from Summit since I have some gift cards for there! :D :D

And just double checking; A fitting that is 1/2" ID is a 8AN, correct? And 5/8" is 10AN?

I replaced my leaky steel transmission cooler lines with Summit brand braided lines and AN fittings. I used the black fittings since they don’t draw as much attention as the traditional red and blue ones.
It was my first time workng with this material. They have a good selection and the quality seems good. I have had no problems since installing them backin 2013.

Rick, not sure of the size question but I know this from my aviation background. There is a SS line that is Teflon and ones that are rubber. The SS Rubber line will deteriorate like a regular rubber line, the SS will protect the outside. A Teflon line will last just about forever. I would do your lines in Teflon. Same with brake lines, Teflon.

I have a Peterson pump that I got from Howard Davis. It has fittings in the pump already. I was measuring the ID of the fittings so I can get an order ready when I know what I need. I thought AN sizes were measured by 16ths of an inch. In other words 1/2" = 8/16" = 8AN Just wanted to make sure.

It's a little bit more work, but try to avoid the swivel connectors. (when both ends are an angle connector)

They eventually start seeping at the swivel.

Note AN 8 doesn't have 1/2" id. It's based on OD of equivalent tube.

One end or the other really needs a swivel. Buy good ones and be done. :mrgreen:

It was either the summit branded swivel fitting or earls.

Never hit the drip stage. Just the oil film stage. (after some years)

My engine compartment in my truck is generally cleaner than the outside of the truck, so it bothered me..
