just did the conversion last winter on my 41 plymouth. everything red said is right. did he mention to cut the firewall and move it back to clear the longer engine? was a lot of work, but well worth it, plus i put in a a 833 od tranny. a real plus and a 8 3/4 rearend.
it can be done if you have the patience, and skils and tools.

This is a little off topic but years back I recall seeing a 46 or 47 Desoto called the "viperized Desoto." It had a Dodge Viper V10 crate engine popped in it. Neat car. Anything is possible.

I sold my '40 Dodge Coupe to a guy who's going to put a slant six into it.

Years ago a buddy and myself put a slant six into a stock 1950 Dodge Coronet. Stock suspension, stock brakes, 3 speed manual, 1977 Dodge Aspen rear end. Then we drove it to car show 400 miles away with very little testing.

sorry i'm a couple years late chiming in on this topic.
i did the slant six conversion on my 41 plymee a couple years ago. it has worked out great for me. i had the engine gone through, and compression raised to 10:1 head work done, and lots of head porting and exhaust work. i have no complaints. i used the stock frame, and fabed motor mounts. put in a a833 od trans. converted to disc brakes, and a cavilere rack and pinion.
yes it was a lot of work to get it to fit, without relocating the radiator. i cut the firewall back about 6" on the passenget side, and dito to all the other modifications that were mentioned above, trans crossmember, shifter etc
am currently splitting the manifold for dual exhaust. like i said, no complaints, and love driving the old plymee. can't figure how to post pics on here, but will be glad to email pics, and any info to you. just pm me.

Hi, I'm new to the forum but have been watching for sevreal months. I am starting on the project of installing a '75 225 w/904 in my '48 Plymouth club coupe. There are a number of SL6 guys in my area that seam to be quite interested in this project and have offered some help of sorts. I am a reired antique car restorer and old time hot rodder so I aware of the problems involved. So far what I have read on this thread is encouraging. I'll try to keep everyone posted as to progress.

Bob

hey bob,
welcome to the forum. been good emailing with you. your car looks great, and it will be worth the effort to get the slant six in there. you sound a lot like me (a old time hotrodder) i've lost a little of the hot, but still love my old cars. my 41 gets a lot of attention at cruises and shows, and you can't imagine how many people say that the slant was a good choice.
somehow i just ended up buying another. was just looking for a car that need a slant engine as i have a couple around here. ended up buying a 62 lancer "gt" with a aluminum slant. absolute no rust 49,000 mile car. all original except the offy 4 bbl, and dutra dual exhaust. just needing a lot of little things looked after. rebuilt engine and trans (700 miles).
still don't know why i bought it, but it was calling my name!!.
good luck on your project, and keep me posted on your progress, possibly we can meet someday at a get together, although we are a ways apart.
