| Post subject: | Which grease do you buy for your grease gun? |
With the staggering amount of choices for which grease to use, i'm puzzled. I have a mini grease gun (3oz) and i'm buying grease for it for the first time. I guess I need hi temp grease as it will be used on the car (front end joints), my reloading machine (pivot pins) as well as the splines on the shaft drive of my motorcycle (which requires hi temp grease). I could also use it (out of the grease gun...) for wheel bearings/gun lubrication/etc. Something multi purpose yet hi temp I guess. I'm in an apartment with limited space! I've been cruising around the internet reading about hi temp greases. Does anyone have a recommendation on which hi temp grease I should use for my mini grease gun? Hi the_shadow. I am a great fan of Red Line oil products, a really excellent oil for the engine and the differential. But: I don't recommend to use their grease, it separates more than any grease I have ever used! After leaving my Red Line filled grease gun in a plastic bag, among some other tools not used every day, I was very surprised when I found them all to be drenched in oil, after being left alone for a couple of months. The grease had separated! I have limited experience with synthetic grease, so for all I know, synthetic grease may have a tendency to do that. The last grease I used before my grease gun ran out and I filled it up with Red line, was a cartridge of ordinary petroleum based, all purpose grease from Quaker State, which has worked perfectly for me for decades. That is also what I used to refill my grease gun again, after cleaning out the Red Line. Olaf |
