Hey all, I'm about to restore my steering wheel and am considering simulated wood. Has this ever been DIY ed successfully? Thoughts?

Cheers,
Barnaby

Wait, what's on the wheel now, simulated wood or plain colored plastic?

If you want to fix either, epoxy is the way to go. See this article for example (not by me, but sound):

Thanks Lou,
It's plain colored plastic and beyond practical restoration. I picked up a much better, but cracked wheel at Wildcat. I've used the Por 15 kit before on the turbo Valiant wheel and painted it back to factory color about 5 years ago. Surprisingly it still looks great. I thought for sure the paint would wear, but not yet.

I thought it would be fun to do simulated wood on the wheel, not the spokes. It must be possible, but maybe beyond my skills?

Google how to make a simulated wood grained steering wheel.

Thanks Richard! Good call!
I found this and I'm not sure I can pull it off? https://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/ ... wheel.html

I'm also thinking about making a wood veneer inlay for the dash bezel to cover the dead plasti chrome...
The early a bodies already look European, might as well own it!

I'm Brian, not Lou. Maybe my user name is too close to Lou's...
