I have a '64 Valiant wagon and need keys for the tailgate. It's difficult to get at the lock mechanism to take into a locksmith, so is there any way to get a replacement key through VIN numbers or something else?

Suggestions appreciated,

No idea about VIN-based keys/codes. You might just drive it to a locksmith and see if they can pick it and make a key from scratch. Many locksmiths also do house calls.

IIRC, to make a key off the VIN you need the original paperwork from the dealer who sold the car.
