Here is what happened to the Funny Truck. It lasted 12 years, so it paid its dues.

Did the torque converter explode?

Not quite sure, but it definitely made contact with the bellhousing.

I love having an RV to go to the races. For the last 3-4 years Angie has said she would be more inclined to go to the races with me if she had a place to get out of the heat and noise and had her own pottie... She enjoyed this weekend and was quite content to sit and read a book with the puppies while I ran about.

I really enjoyed watching Autmn Nichols (Kent Nichols’ daughter) make her first passes at a drag strip in her Rampage. Her 16th birthday was Friday, so she is jumping right in there! It was fun talking to her after each pass and going over her time slips. They live near Frankfort, KY. I offered to let her drive one of my cars when she feels ready, so we will plan to meet at Ohio Valley, US 60, Clay City or London, KY sometime.

I was pitted next to an orange V8 Duster. The gentleman polishing it walked over and said it was good to see the Challenger out again... That gentleman was Mr. Mike Reese, who used to race with the Cox Brothers. We chatted for quite awhile. I told him about Jim Cox coming to the banquet to be inducted into the Slant 6 Racer Hall of Fame.

Aaron Sipple went out of his way to get us set up and find the last remaining electric hook up Thursday night. He worked with us really well to get both of our races done. And the big one for me was him taking the time to come over Friday during a lull in activities to look over my injection set up, adjust it to get it running and give me some instruction on what I should look for and do next to get it running right.

I was really glad Jeff made it out to the race with his SDRA dragster. I enjoyed chatting with him and looking over his car. It is very nicely done. He is an engineer and has some very nice fabrication skills. He would be fun to hang out and wrench with.

It was cool to see Lukus and Isiah in the finals together. I have dreamed for many years to have my family race with me. Lord knows I have enough cars for everyone! It was good that Lukus won... Dads should always win!

I was really impressed that they got the track dried off and were able to get quite a bit more racing done before the rain really came in with a vengeance. Clay City is my favorite place to race.

Musings over. Have a nice day! :D

I’m just now up and about here at 1:00pm in the afternoon after the 11 hour drive back to Owasso Ok. Rob did a fantastic job as race coordinator, keeping everyone advised of the situation. Kentucky Dragway treated the Slant Six guys well. The crew there worked hard to dry the track twice in one day. I know there were many disappointed racers that did not get to finish their class, so we were fortunate we got priority.

I was disappointed with my Friday race, but truth be told, I’m better at 1/4 mile as that’s what I learned on. But, losing to Lucas is nothing to be ashamed of, as he is deadly on the 1/8 mile. Everyone was a good sport and I thought the racing was fun. I’m glad I made the drive.

It was exactly a 48 hour trip for me. Left at 4:00am on Friday, and got back at 4:00am on Sunday. I would not recommend sleeping in the back seat of your truck unless you are 5ft or shorter, but that’s exactly what I did.

The time slips from Saturday will get sent in this week. Those are the fastest ETs the car has ever ran. A tweek here and there and I’m closing in on sub 11 seconds. Maybe a little better air this fall at Tulsa will get it done.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Isiah can do with the Funny Truck. Since it broke, he now has the opportunity to rebuild, rising up from the damage and making it even better.
Remember Isiah, Never, Never. Never Give Up, NEVER!

Kent Nichols and Mike Reece, a real blast from the past. I don't believe I have talked to Mike since the day he called to tell me that John had crashed the Cox Brothers car at Columbus. It's good to know he is still racing, have him tell you about the time he drove his high compression car from Columbus to Indy burning 110 octane all the way!

Yeah, blasts from the past for sure. I remember several great conversations with Mike at the races in the early 2000s.

Isiah pulled the engine out of the Funny Truck. It looks like it was the starter ring that let go causing the damage to the bellhousing.

Looking at the damage on that transmission, I wouldn't be afraid to weld that piece back in and use the transmission. The torque converter could be repaired and re-used too.
