I've installed this new electric choke on my 76 Dart (Holley 1945) and it's fine until I start the car - choke opens all the way right when I start it (40 degrees outside). I unhooked the hose to the unloader and then this doesn't happen. The unloader seems to pop the choke full open right at startup, not hitting the throttle at all. Does this sound like a fualty unloader? Or could it be hooked into the wrong vacuum port?

Sounds like you need to adjust the linkage on the choke pulloff diaphragm. See this article for instructions on how to do it.

The vacuum-operated device is the choke pull-off.

The choke unloader is a tang on the throttle lever that pushes the choke open when you floor the gas pedal, allowing you to clear a flooded engine.

Reed's right - it sounds like your choke thermostat and/or choke pull-off aren't adjusted correctly.

I just orderred an electric choke kit for my 1bbl carter bbs from carbs only. Do I need to remove the carb to set it up, if so are there any tricks i should know? Also as for the power, how do I hook it up to 12v source that is only on with ignition? Im a noob.

You needn't remove the carb. The kit comes with pretty good instructions, and you can re-use the existing choke power wire. If you don't have an existing choke power wire, follow the instructions that come with the kit as to how and where to put one in.

It works great! I hooked the power wire up to the wiper motor. Thanks for all the help and suggestions, great thread.

I ordered and have received the 1232 electric choke for the super six that is in my 87 D100. Motor is (I believe) a 72 vintage with a Super six. Got to looking at it today seeing what I have to do to install it and don't see how the choke rod is going to attach to the choke mechanism on the carb. The choke rod is basically at a 90 degree right angle from the choke on the carb. Would anyone happen to have a photo or two of the 1232 kit installed. I do have the 87 FSM but doesn't seem to cover this retrofit.

Everyone who gets the #1232 says the same thing, "I don't see how this could possibly hook up, the rod angle is wrong", etc.

Have faith. It will hook up to the Super Six carb's choke lever. Even though it looks wrong. Just follow the instructions that come with the kit.

Once warmed up and driving for over 30 minutes, I've noticed that when idle (at a red light) it idles very high. Not sure if I need to adjust the idle or the electric choke? Choke is fully open.

If the choke is fully open, your high idle isn't related to the choke. Your fast-idle cam could be sticking, the link between your fast-idle cam and the choke lever could be improperly bent (too short), or your idle speed could simply need adjusting.

Yes, this occurs when the choke is fully open. I will try adjusting the idle speed. Thanks.

Yes, #1234 is correct for all 1945/6145 applications.
