Thanks, everybody.

Come to Motormile Dragway this Friday/Saturday and see it run down an 1/8th mile and get a ride!

Lou

A LOT. Best time 9.27 @ 72.5 MPH. 4 tenths and about 1 MPH gain. Still hooked well, even on the 2010-age Goodyear Eagle GS-A street tires (235/65-17 - 28" tall). It is also so much more fun to drive on the street with the 3.91s. Hwy driving is fine too since it has 28" tires. 70 MPH around 3500 RPM.

AFR gauge says I'm around 14:1 going down the track at WOT, so I need to jet up and try again. I put in some 110 race gas for safety instead of taking the whole carb apart to re-jet. It was running so well i didn't want to mess with it.

More to come!

Lou

Probably, but it would be very tight w/PS and alternator space. The hood/frame is narrow at the front where those accessories mount. There is Leighton's turbo motor that I just pulled out, which perfectly fits in there. I need to swap out the busted cam, check for other internal damage, and figure out how to tune or revamp the EFI system ECU. Thinking maybe next winter for that, after I put the Torqstorm motor in the 68 Dart (soon!) and get that snortin', and then make some progress on the 64 Dart rebuild. Strange things are always afoot at the Slanted garage...

Sounds like you need 1 or 2 more projects.

Yeeeeahhhhhh. I bought the Coupe against my better judgement, but then sold the Spirit to maintain sanity. Now I'm happy I bought the Coupe, but 6 mo ago I was not. I am trying to figure out if there is something else I might consider letting go...

I think you made a great buy Lou, a conection with the past in more ways than one.
I know as I have gotten older, I don't have the bandwidth for too many projects.
Sounds like the coupe is a fast runner.

Thanks, Stan. I am very happy with it now and imagine that will continue for a long time! Probably I can get it into the 8s in the 1/8th and 13s in the 1/4 with some upgrades, but low 9s and 14s is pretty great for this setup that is totally fun on the street. I'll take my time with getting back to Leighton's turbo motor, but that is the ultimate goal. That should be a lot faster...

I used to wrench more hours/days, but was less efficient, so probably I get something like the same amount done, and/or things work better and go faster than in my younger days. I mainly try to keep a balance where I am really enjoying working on the cars and yet not pressuring myself to "get them done" by a deadline. I also find that if 2-3 cars are not running, I get antsy, but hopefully I am ahead of that for a while. I do sorta long for the days when I just had two cars (64 and 68 Darts). We'll see what happens next in life!

I really wish I could find an apprentice or two, since I love to teach, but that has not worked out in quite a while (since I lived in NC).

Just my slanted ramblin'...

Lou
