Tt is an AMS Automotive 05004 purchased through RockAuto,,

The kit came with: all metal TOB, 10 inch disk, PP and a bronze pilot bushing.

I had it bolted up to the flywheel to check the PP clutch finger height, and the best I can measure, they are all the same height.
The staking on the adjustment bolts looked OK, welded them for assurance.

Sounds Good John.

The link you reference has the 'ol Borg and beck 10" cover that I had expected to see. the one you have does not.

I am sure it will work well.

Thanks for the infos.

Greg

Yes, used the kitchen oven. The product info mentions that there is are non-toxic fumes, which there were. Was a nice day here in Indy so we had the windows open and it dissipated quickly.

Good to hear the kitchen oven works great.

Andy AKA Andy's GT stopped by and was helpful in getting the motor back into the 83 D150.
It is a long reach dropping the slant back in to the 83 D150 and it is helpful to have a person up top working the hoist and someone down at the transmission guiding it back in place.

Spent the past few days re installing the: alternator, power steering, radiator, exhaust system, belts and hoses.
Originally I was only planning on fixing the clutch and maybe changing the cam, did that and a lot of general under hood cleaning.

I drained the a833 and need to get the lube to re fill it, other than that I believe I have everything. Tomorrow should be the day I get it re started.

the gear lube that I had ordered via Amazon showed up this evening.
Rats,, it is 140 W Sta-Lube,, I intended to order 85w90, I looked at my order and I mis ordered.

I think what I am going to do is go ahead and put the 140W gear oil in, I don't drive this truck in the cold winter weather anyway.
If anything it is going to be getting more summer time highway use.
If the shifting is problematic ( I just love the work problematic, for a short time I had a former supervisor back in my working days that I absolutely despised due to his general incompetence as a manager, and he would say problematic to describe any and every situation where a decision by him was necessary and he actually had to do something of consequence, now I use it to remind myself how nice it is being out of that toxic atmosphere) back on subject. If the shifting is slow or difficult I can drain some of the 140W out and add back in auto transmission fluid to dilute and thin it.
Any way, that is my plan unless I hear something back between now and tomorrow AM from one of you slant sixers.

thanks.

I would think it might shift quite stiffly with such viscous lube. I have never tried it, but I would not do it myself.

I am thinking you are right.
I should look at the return policy. There should be at least 4 quarts of ATF on the shelf in the garage.
And ATF was the factory fill on this a833.

If I were local I'd bring you a gallon of Red Line MTL. Unlike the old days there are now dedicated manual trans lubes in the ATF viscosity range.

Looking around the internet I have found folks that run everything from: ATF to the Red Line MTL mentioned to 30w motor oil to 20w50 motor oil to 85w90 gear oil to 140w gear oil and all claim they have the best shifting a833 ever. Pennzoil Syncromesh fluid also got a lot of positive hits.
Maybe it’s somewhat climate dependent, or several different products are suitable. I’ll look at the FSM tomorrow, I know ATF was in this tranny from the factory and that Brewers, a very reputable a833 rebuilder recommends Sta Lube 85w90.

FWIW, I had drained the ancient factory fill ATF out of my '82 833 a few years ago. I believe they used Dexron II back in that day. Black water it was. Checking the FSM, gear oils were degreed good to go other than ATF, but I forget the approved weights at the moment. I used 75w90 ( or maybe 80w90? ). Made up a blend of full syn and dino. Syn blend gear oil was my go to for years but it seems to have disappeared. I've been very happy with that. Only a bit of reluctance on very cold weather drive a ways. I know that Dexron VI and some of the other newer ATF's are lighter viscosity than II or III. Much longer life for auto trans but too thin, I think, for the old fuel mileage trick of ATF in a manual trans. Personally, there's no way I would use a 140 weight in the trans. Dodge was adamant about using 80/90 W 140 in the 8.25 differential though.

Unrelated annoying fun fact  , Eons ago, I had a Fiat 128. Wanted to do a trans fluid change. All the manuals screamed to not use hypoid gear oil or you would die. That transaxle had straight cut gears and didn't need hypoid. I guess it was about the eating of bronze by most hypoid oil. After visiting about 6 parts stores and getting shrugs when asked about non hypoid gear oil, I finally realized that they used straight 40 motor oil. Which is probably the weight equivalent of about 75w gear oil.

I checked the two FSM's that I have
the 83 FSM says,,, the factory fill is Dexron II ATF, if unacceptable gear rattle is present drain and refill with 90 or 75W or 75w80 or 80w90 gear oil

the 68 FSM says,,, the factory fill is a special gear oil, if additional oil needs to be added use SAE 140 gear oil. If shifting is hard in cold weather drain and refill with
Dexron ATF or SAE 80 or 90 gear oil. In warm weather drain and re fill with SAE 140.

That was a good tip about modern ATF's possible being thinner. That seems likely.

I initiated a return of the 140 weight gear oil through Amazon, I listed that I purchased the wrong product and got a free return, don't need to even box it, just take it to a local UPS store with a bar code they e mailed me.

I believe I will use the Penzoil Syncromesh fluid, I can get that locally, I think.

I bet GM synchromesh (same as pennzoil?) will/would work great. That is what I have run in my T5s, and I am pretty sure they took Dexron back in the day.

when I had my Wrangler and my 93 Dakota (both NV3500) I was told by many that regular 80w90 (spec'd GL-5) would eat out my synchros eventually. to either go get the overpriced crap across the counter from the stealership, or go to any parts store and get some Synchromesh. These are made to GL 4 spec. so I ran the Synchromesh/

The second start after a complete cool down

Started the engine pull on April 9, three weeks and it is back.
Did a clutch and cam change and a good engine cleaning with fresh paint.
Need to hook up a vacuum advance, adjust the choke and the clutch.
Hopefully The D150 is set for several summers of fun.
