Would a '60-'62 wagon have more spring rate than a typical 4 door / 2 door sedan/ hardtop from the factory?

Thanks!

Greg

Seems like a station wagon would have higher capacity rear leaf springs.
Unless someone has really good knowledge on that, maybe contact an aftermarket leaf spring manufacturer like ESPO. They may have access to part catalogs and engineering data from back when those cars were new.

Thanks Charrlie, I should be able to decipher something from that..although it does not give me spring rate.

I haven't seen spring rate in regular listed in any of the "standard" repair/service/parts manuals.
I am assuming "standard" is a sedan with a 170 engine.
"Sub" is for suburban or station wagon.
Found some aftermarket info. Don't know how it relates to the factory springs.
Regular rear spring is rated at 720 lbs, and 110 lbs/in
Heavy Duty is 800 lbs, and 130 lbs/inch
These are for 1961 to 1966. Got this info from Tampa Spring Co.

Thanks Charrile for the excellent Information - It's Likely that I will need Somewhere in the 175-225 lbs/In Rate for my project aspirations, So I Suppose a set of Air Shocks or a spring Swap is in the future plans.

Cheers!

Greg

I would suggest you contact a spring shop in your area (Tampa Spring is 25 miles from me). Tell them the spring rate you need. They should have the physical dimensions for the spring. Then they can build exactly what you want. You can even specify the amount of "arch" you would like. A quick google search shows a couple of spring shops in Pittsburg.
